keeping the avalung in during a slide

This thread got me thinking about the possibility of the avalung mouthpiece being ripped out during a slide. In your own opinion, is it worth it to try and keep it in your mouth using a hand (har har)? This would mean you might lose ability to swim/make and air pocket/chimney.

Lou Dawson was talking about changing the small mouth piece with one from an actual snorkel. I would like to see someone experiment with this as I think it could greatly increase the chance of keeping the hose in your mouth during a slide. Other than that I have nothing constructive to add.

I think someone should make one that also works as a mouth guard. That was you would keep it in your mouth for sure during an avi and if you are banged around by the debris or swept over rocks it could help with concussions.

I'd love to see a full face helmet with a clip-in adapter. Probably have to wait for BD to get into the helmet market.

Thats a great idea. I hear alot of noise about full faces making it hard if not impossible to get the tube in your mouth but I think with a little tinkering you could rig something that would actualy hold it in place. A snorkel mouth piece would be good too, something you can really bite down on.

Re fullface helmets... I was thinking about some velcro on the inside of the chin protector and some on the back of the mouth piece to keep it kinda there waiting to be grabbed.

I try to ski with mine in place as much as possible, but it is not possible if you are breathing heavy.
