Tell that stupid tech not to use a screw-shooter on wood top sheets. You gotta hand tighten those bitches!

Heli coils are a last resort not just a fix all for any time you forgot to dial down your torque settings!

Good luck with that one, I think you should let us know the shop name so the rest of us can avoid this pain in the ass or at least PM it to me because I live in your area.

Tell them to google "neptune mountaineering" too.

That whole deal is a bummer. He wanted to stonegrind your skis because that would really help get those dimples out and make those spots not visible. Heating the base and whacking it with a rubber mallet would flatten the dimples, but they'd still be visible. Anyways, if the heli-coils are done properly and in conjunction with a good epoxy I doubt you'll have any problems with the mount in the future. Often times on skis without a mount plate or top sheet of metal I'll heli-coil (with the customers approval) the ski right off the bat right outta the shrinkwrap. Remember they're only skis and they make 'em everyday (well, maybe not Igneous'). Ski 'em up! Best of luck...

Also, props on keeping your cool in the shop. That's the only way I think you'll feel good about the end result of this whole deal.

This is starting to sound like an episode of punked.

Doesn't help fix them, but sorry to hear about the skis.

I applaud your choice to let the shop clear this up, but I think it's time to drop names. This is repeated incompetence.

As mentioned above the grind was understandable to fix their first mistake, and heli-coils aren't the end of the world. The continued spinning of screws, and the base dimpling is not understandable or tolerable. Based on the thread so far the screws are too long. They are spinning either because they didn't drill deep enough, or much more likely they are too long and through the wood and hitting the aramid base jacket or the base. Iggies have not metal and it doesn't take much torque at all to get a perfect mount on them. The heli-coils don't let the screw strip and let it dimple your base. Plain and simple.

If I were you I'd take my skis somewhere else and drop some names.

This shop needs to pay you some $$/replace your skis. Otherwise this tech is going to continue to maim skis and nothing will change there.

Yo Kya, you gonna cough up the shop name or what? There's only a handful of shops in the valley, I want to make sure I avoid this one (please let it not be Carl's).

I couldn't take it anymore after another sleepless night. Too many ugly emotions were spinning around in my head over these skis. So I went into the shop & spoke with the manager about this ordeal. He needed to know what was in my heart & how I disapproved about this tragic situation. After all of this, I couldn't find it in myself to be mad or upset during our conversation. It is just not me. Though, the manager could see that I was having a very tough time dealing with how this was carelessly handled. Hopefully I encouraged him to pull things together, so this doesn't happen to another person.

Although they are just skis, they've got a lot of meaning & history behind them. I feel like I'm waiting for them to finally get out of ski shop surgery & recover at home.

That would have been a perfect time for him to step and offer to replace them. I can understand that this is about more than the skis. My wife and I just had our 10th anniversary and it is more than just a gift. Good luck.

OK - this is WAY outta hand now. Screw what I said earlier about asking for a puny $500 store credit. I'm with Rontele - they owe you a new pair of FFF's. If they don't cough 'em up take them to court. Make them pay. You should also out them here. That tech is a crackhead. He should be cooking up meth instead of ruining people's skis over and over. And the manager is a moron for hiring the guy in the first place and keeping him on after he continues to fuck up. Unreal.

ok, now I am a ski tech jong, and am also 100% tele, but is there absolutely any need/reason to take the heel piece off to tune a ski?

No, unless you're on crack. This is a very sad story.

Removing the bindings off skis, alpine or tele, allows the stonegrinder to apply more even pressure on the ski as it travels over the stone. Using a binding bridge is the norm, but results are better when the binding is removed. That said, removing bindings for ski tunes is usually reserved for world cup race skis and the like... Also, the bindings on his Igneous' had to be removed anyways to grind the screws down, so they probably figured that was a good time to stone them as well.

just popping in to say two things:

    1) i'm so glad the manager stepped up to help you out. It hurt me just reading about someone fucking up such a beautiful pair of skis. I would have had to say a prayer to Ullr before even touching those.

    2) fuck me those things look sexy with dynafits on them...

I have been lurking in this thread long enough. The owner needs to buy you a new set of iggies. Period. AND on top of that, you can keep the old ones as a backup pair. Seriously, post up the address of the store and we can write letters in petition. This is a shame.

Glad to see the shop stepped up. Any word on time frame from Adam or Mike? Will the new pair be koa topsheets too?

There was a lot of pain and suffering there, but I would not worry about the old ones at all. They will still be super bomber. You scored a second pair of FFF's for your trouble.

Any plans for the second pair? The FFF quiver would be sick, AT and in-bounds set up.
