So who's solve one? I got one as a joke gift this Christmas and spend a day trying to solve it. I then broke down and looked at the 7-step solution guide that came with the cube. The guide did help, but it still requires you to get the cube set up before you can use the guide. After working at it for a while longer I finally finished the damn thing. I've solved the cube twice and now have it sitting on my desk.

I had a roommate in high school who could solve it in like 2 minutes. I solved it a couple times, but with a LOT of his help.

Had a cousin do this. He claimed he solved it, but the crooked stickers gave him away. He got pelted pretty hard with the pieces.

Knew a kid in high school that measured the time he took to solve one in seconds... And i even went and messed it up before he did it, and he still got it...

Using this method, I won the 1981 Swedish championships, and finished 4th in the 1982 world championships in Budapest. I also won the 2005 world championships in Orlando for solving in fewest moves. My average of 10 best is 21.88 seconds from 2002, and for a single solution 13.60 in 2006.

I don't want to solve it unless I can figure it out myself. What's the point if you just read a guide on how to solve it and then do it?

There is no way would have done it without the guide. Basically it gives a strategy and suggested moves, but you still have to set up the cube on your own, which took me a long time to get the colors where I need them to be. On my own the best I could do was get two sides solved, but with the guide its says not to worry about solving sides, but rather solve rows first.

they have algorithms to solve it as well.

the 3^3 was pretty easy but the 4^3 and 5^3 ones are tough.

Problem is: unless you're a freakin' genius or have WAY too much time on your hands, it'd probably take more time to figure out on your own than you're willing to spend. Even with the books and guides, it's still a challenge for most people to learn and retain the pattern spotting and routines involved.

I spent a couple months playing with it when I was about 13, picked up a couple algorithms from books and a couple on my own, and within a few weeks I was solving it in layers in under two minutes. It wasn't easy to learn though and I've forgotten it all now.. I remember developing a shorthand specifically for all the little notes on patterns that I was working on.

Tempted to go get one and try again, that website uses a different approach than I did.. Not sure I have the same brain that I did when I was 13 tho..

My 13 year old son read about it and can do it in about 5 minutes.
However, I can maintain the mixed random mosaic pattern for eternity.
