Lou Dawson's review of new BD Alias Avalung pack

    cross posted in Tech Talk

I've seen this pack up on the pass on a couple of testers, and it looks pretty nice. I really like my new Anarchist Avalung. Some really like the Covert, others do not. I know some folks are looking for something else. You might want to check this out and wait to buy a new Avalung pack...

I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

I have been hoping to see some new BD avalung packs, but the Alias pack doesn't do it for me. That thing looks big, and I'm not such a fan of the rucksack style closure.

I would like to see something in the 1000 cu in range, with very simple/clean design for short laps and minimal bulkiness.

That being said, I look forward to checking out this new pack in person.

Zip-tie a regular Avalung to the shoulder strap of your favorite pack.

They supposedly have several other, different, packs coming out as well smaller and larger.

because that's dependable seeing the same people who bitch about AT boots in alpine bindings not being a perfect DIN match advocate the bailing wire and ducttape approach for an avalung is funny.

I would agree. Packs are personal and need to fit the individual, the Avalung, by itself, can be made to work with any pack. Also, you change pack sizes depending on where you are going and what you need to bring.

the problem with a zip tie is its hard and narrow, therefore increasing the possibility of constricting the rather soft & flexible avalung tube in a slide when things get tossed about. BD used soft & wide velcro for a reason other than $.
