    Tahoe Backcountry Thread(Post your Info)

Lets start the tahoe backcountry thread, please report any Tahoe Backcountry trips, pics, conditions etc. I'll Start

Went to Grouse Ridge todays, prety damn good, boot deep at the top, cold light snow, very good coverage, only one other set of tracks!!! Had the whole place to myself! Pretty stormy when I left, snowing hard and windy tommarrow should be good there. Anyone been to Tallac yet?

in the s show, there's really not much to talk about yet. i'd bet there's decent skiing up high on tallac but the lower mtn there will eat you up and spit you out w/o way more coverage. heading south, pow/wahwah house only has enough snow to barely cover the snags, boulders and logs. another 2 feet and it'll be ok. even further south, carson pass is def the best thing we got going. when its not the only game in town i'll spell it out but until then feel free to pm me for the details soas not to empower the lurking motherfuckers who ain't gonna give anything back. s.c and i are heading way farther south tomorrow to check out some eastside bc and hopefully by this time next week we'll really have something to talk about.

and bill, do you ever post on that site you referenced??? i can't recall any, though i post there under another name so i may be wrong. it used to be a great spot there but its kinda withered in the last year or so. good on ya for starting this thread tboz and hopefully it sticks around better then the numerous ones i've tried to get going round here in years past. truth is, most folks here are flying couch potatoes or they're from the n shore where the competition is too large for the meager offerrings they have so they're afraid to give it up. i better double winky that one

    doh!!!

fyi lph -- tpr (shit i can't continue only in abbreviations) is closed this year so there shouldn't be any hassles on tioga this winter. not that they had any jurisdiction there but they frowned on it pretty hard. the highway and spur rds are the only areas you can legally ride due to all the wilderness but still, w/ a little skinning from the top the plateau can be all yours for a lil effort w/ a 2 stroke assist.

i'll go recheck h20haus tomorrow or the next day. i live in xmas valley and we've had light snow showers almost constantly for the last 2.5 days. it's been wet here, but that's a good thing. probably got some freezing rain layers mixed in as well. we've been up there every new years day for the last 5 years, so i'll be hitting that up again if the conditions are close to ready
i tend to have less sensitivity to low snow conditions than the average bear, however.
the gullies above meiss hut also look to have good coverage. they've probably had close to a foot of fresh over the last three days too, judging by what kirkwood got.

    ^^^ Nice work BCR!
I see you are a fan of Mendecino Brewing Co's EotH? FYI, Costco now carries the "Cast of Hawks" mixed ale case, with the IPA, EotH, Red tail and pale. Can't go wrong with that!

I already posted a couple of these on the tahoe opening thread, this is probably a better spot.

We hit Castle last Friday (12/21) and Tamarack last Sat and Sun (12/22-23).

There was lots of snow at Castle, but it still seemed a little bony when riding.

We hiked to the ridge between Castle and Basin and road down, headed towards the grubb hut. Then back up Castle pass to the summit ridge and down Castle proper. The ride off Castle was definitely swimming with sharks.

Headed up to the hourglass area with the girlfriend on Sat and Sun. Didn't expect much since they got half the snow Donner got, but it was really fun.

Didn't hit any rocks, and the snow, on Sat at least, was fast, fluffy, blower.
Sunday's snow was good in the bowls at least. It got a little sticky on the ride out.

Sarah hiking on Sunday, if she only has a pull over on, you know it's warm

Guermo - you headed up there today?

I was going to hit broken glass(?), the bowl that drops towards Rose with the two rock towers.

I used to work at The Backcountry, I know Mike would be stoked if people started posting over there again.

Yes - Bullet. I haven't posted anything for over a year or two. Primarily because I haven't done anything near the level worth posting. But most of my photos were in smugmug or Webshots accounts - long expired.

I've got a Palisades, Langley x2, Negatives, and Whitney report on there somewhere. Given the quality of the TRs there, I try to only contribute if I have something worthy to share. I think I have less than 20 posts.

But I go to that site all the time because its a great source of beta. I have bookmark to the TR forums. It's a great site. You don't have to sift through 70 nonsense posts to find the goods. And all the TRs are in the Sierra (for the most part).

    bcrider, where is that?

went up to waterhouse this afternoon for a quick dusk recon and a few turns. it needs more snow, but it certainly wasn't too bad. i didn't hit anything, but i had to be very careful, especially since it was getting dark. i didn't get too far up, but the track is definitely well worn in. i'll defintiely hit it up new years day.
i went straight out towards the ridgeline when the track started going up so i could get some low angle turns and stay in the light as long as possible. heres an ugly video to give you an idea of how it is. once you get to the sunset pic, it's over except for the song. i think i need a helmet cam rather than the righthandicam.

Same couloir? (did I just miss somewhere that said these were taken at the same place?)

Edit: seeing them side by side I realize they are (nice inclusion or whatever there on lookers left) . Sweet pics, especially the ones from Jan 1.

Not too relavent considering how things may change over the next couple days..but a nice day. The snow was soft and deep enough, the sleds were loud, the blisters were deep, and the end of the day beers tasted great.
