So how many people sending their gotamas in soon with compressed sidewalls? Season isnt over yet for me, but will be soon enough.

I have not seen so many of these bugs. They're good skis and volkl usually honors the warranty

One thing I will say is the edges on these skis are absolutely bomber. I've gotten two LARGE coreshots that swept across the edge of the ski and the edges didn't budge a mm.

That said, the topsheets are crap, people have cracked the fake sidewall on a number of these skis, and the bases are waaaay too thin.

Volkl knows they fucked up this year, that's why they're basically warranting these skis no questions asked. After the spring corn harvest ends, I'm sending mine in. The top sheet flaked off in a place where it was physically impossible for me to have damaged it. I'd normally never warranty something for cosmetic reasons, but the word on the street from every shop and rep is that Volkl is being really upstanding about this. They put out a destructo ski and want to fix it. I'm going to send mine in before I really blow them up and it's too late.

I sent mine in when they cracked after about a week of skiing, and Völkl warrantied it, but didn't have any more 190s. So I got my one uncracked ski back, along with someone else's returned, but uncracked ski and a letter saying that I would get the 2005 Gotamas when available.

The sidewall on my until-recently-uncracked ski cracked this Easter.

Though I had to dig up my old telemark skis for a few weeks while waiting for Völk and UPS, I am very happy with this arrangement. I can ski the crap out of my Gotamas, and will get the new and improved ones before next season. Sweet.

I demoed some last weekend. They ski so nice. Just as stable as my Vex but easier to turn and more fun IMO.

No cracks but the sidewalls look like weathered antiqued lobster traps after living in a vehicle for six or so weeks. Guessing the cracks propagate between the grain/growth rings?

Hey Arty, any word if they'll do the same for the explosiv? Same shitty topsheet. Mine have fair size chuncks taken from the sides (due tips coming together ). I've never had this happen on any other volkls i've owned.
...what? what I thought we were in the trust tree in the nest, were we not?

No clue. It's worth a shot though. See if your local shop can talk to the Volkl rep. Keep in mind that the Explosiv is supposedly unchanged next year.

For what its worth, mine have been blown to shit since the 3rd run I used them. I epoed the sidewall and they ski fine but bring on the new and improved double burly.
