    Current base/snow at AltaBird?

Heading out to Snowbird in a few days and will be spending the week. First day on snow will be Sunday. It does not look like we are expect any deep powder days - a few inches on the first few days.

I am bring out my VCTs, which are really my all mountain ski. My wife thinks one set of skis is enough (fewer bags to carry). I think I can forgo my deep snow skis and BC set up (too much gear to lug with my wife's stuff).

Is there any need to pack a pair of back up/ rock skis? What does the base look like currently. I was sure glad I had some older skis when I visited Jackson last year - lots of fun stuff, but plenty of rock scraping and bush wacking to be had.

What does it look like out there?

67 inch base as of this mornings report.

Expecting a few tonight.....few tomorrow.....few Sunday....you're right though likely nothing deep while you're here....you JUST missed it....

rocks can ALWAYS be found but leaving some ptex on the mtn is good.... any piece of equipment can be fixed and/or replaced....don't sweat the small stuff.

You will hit rocks, but as long as you don't try to ski over the rocks you will be fine.
Just ski down there and jump of a somethin' fer cryin' out loud!

If you are going to hit rocks - isn't better to ski over than *fall* over them?

So it sounds like there are rocks - there are always some rocks... How are the traverses? That seems to be where the real damage can be done.

But it is not quite *salt and pepper* - like JHMR was last year.

As far as JUST missing it - that has been my thing so far this season. But it currently looks like I will return to a true Tahoe dump after my Utah trip
