    Question atomic plates

i know this has been discussed here and there, but my searches weren't answering some lingering questions re: atomic binding plates.

skis in question are 176 '04 stomps - boot sole length is 295mm

-is the "use what binding you want" plate still available anywhere?

-if you have the "use what you want" plate, can you mount freerides or naxos on it?

-has anyone had positive or negative experience with using this plate with a randonee or regular salomon binding?

-whats the verdict on the atomic binders?

I dunno about teh Stomp, but quite a few people around La Grave mounted SlamOns directly into Big Daddies after having removed the Atomic plate and plugged the holes. The skis were great with this setup, way lighter than with a good Atomic binding and thus more of a nimble ski.

I love my Atomic R1018s but I am in no way a fan of the R614; fukkr prereleases all the time. The R1018 are imo as good as a SlamOn 916 or Look P18 / ZR but heavier (too heavy for some). I love the ability to move the binding around too.

I have made custom cutting board risers for my SD's that underwent 10 days of touring in BC, a 3 day slog in the BC of the Sierra's and have held up fine. With Fritschi's you need some sorta plate because the back piece has a center screw that has nothing to go into if you try to screw it straight into the ski. If I was mounting Soli's I would just mount them straight into the ski with no plate.

edit: Oh ya, Atomic Binders suck in my experience. Prereleased going mach schnell on a groomer. not fun... Also VERY heavy. I would definitely put something else on them if it was me.

The Atomic or flat plate is heavy. If going AT a custom riser will be much lighter. There is a dude in SLC that will make them for you however you want. I think I found his info/name on Ttips.
