    :
What the fuck are you talking about? Last I checked, you are a white American male. Not 100% if you are an American citizen, but you do spend a great deal of time in the states. Where do you even get off throwing that shit at him? You come off like an ass. Nothing personal, I'm sure you are a nice guy, but seriously WTF?

It seemed to me all he was saying was more power to them. Put down the thesaurus, stick with skis...

And you are just soooooo fucking kewl to constantly come to a place and post when you don't even give a shit about the "community" of "maggots".

I'm fine with whatever stupid ass shit I do and I don't give a shit about your bullshit pointless affirmations. I enjoy this community for many reasons that you would most likely consider to be "beneath you". I've been hooked up by mags I've never met in person and I've partied and ski'd with others as well as had them as guests in my home.

    Whatever.

    Back to ignore for you.

Any half decent psychoanalyst would say pretty much the same thing. Like all narcissists, self-loathing is at the very core of spook's pathology. Just look at the threads he starts.

Not trying to stir the pot here but I've hung out with people who have family on the Pine Ridge reservation and some that actually lived there. Alcohol has really torn apart some of the reservations -- Pine Ridge for sure. I'm fairly sure there are laws in Northern Nebraska that make it illegal to sell alcohol to residents of Pine Ridge -- although they are seldom enforced.

Let's look at it this way. How exactly did one Native American tribe control lands as opposed to another competing one? Did they all make nice and draw straws to see who won? No, they killed each other. Same shit, different day.

Cool! I wonder how long it will be before Lakota raiding parties return to attacking, raping, pillaging, burning, and scalping again!

Everyone should watch the classic Ealing Comedy movie "Passport to Pimlico", truth is an echo of fiction.

It is about a small district in post WW2 London that declares it is a sovereign state based on an old treaty from hundreds of years ago. Very amusing.
The authorities react by imposing strict border controls and setting high duties on all goods entering the area.
It all ends happily of course.....

Booze is the least of the current addictive problems (not defending booze as I work for JD, observational). They'll take pine sol and pour it through hard loaf of bread to "filter" out the bad stuff. Meth is wildly rampant as there is little enforcement and wide open country. Laws against selling liquor to someone? Good luck and good luck enforcing. Those people that own those liquor stores know their lot, you have to hope karma does exist, but truly they'd just get it somewhere else. Wasn't that hard when I was 16, can't be that hard still. Armed uprising coming off the rez? Yeah, super idea too. Most of my cousins gun rooms look like a redneck Cabela's.

Nah, it's sad to see people no matter who they are or what the hell happened or is happening to them go that way. When you grow up and its right there all your life and you know people in it, you realize what you can do and can't do.

Well, everyone should mail me $1, but I don't see them doing it.

Pretty much every "Indian" joke (see Gyptian's post) I've ever heard has been told to me by friends of mine who are full-blooded Oneidas. Injuns actually have a pretty good sense of humor if you get to know them. Maybe Lakotas are much more serious. Or maybe it's guilty white boys.

TD - how many Native Americans do you personally know? For that matter, how many non-middleclasswhiteboys have you ever called "friend"? Sorry, but I go mostly by what I personally experience. Seriously - stop being so serious, serious guy. Let go of the white guilt, too.

Native Americans friends-none. Friends-Indian, Vietnamese,Nigerian,Phillipino, black so yea I go by personal experience. Also dated Vietnamese and Indian women and have seen the direct effects of racism on them. I have also been discriminated against when I was one of the few white people working with a staff that was mainly Phillipino. So I understand what its like on the other side of the equation.

Try living in Japan for any length of time my fellow gaijin.

Not everyone has had your experience. Your a smart guy, thats why I don't understand how you so easily discount others experiences. People can say whatever they want but should you expect either no reaction or some beign/subservient reaction?? Didn't you mention krystalnacht in that other thread?

Grew up in whiteyville, then lived for a decade in one of the most ethnically diverse cities on the planet, now back in whiteyville again. Its obvious, esp when you work with "intelligent" people, scratch the surface and see what comes flowing out of their mouth. Not exactly what you would expect.

Serious? Uh........ We are standing on the tracks with nowhere to go.

You call it guilt, I call it awareness.
    Good luck.

The Krystallnacht reference had everything to do with mob mentality and nothing to do with racism or xenophobia.

I'm not saying there's not lots of bigoted numbnuts out there, what I'm saying is that I know lots of Native Americans with a great sense of humor and who take a very long time to get offended by anything and I've also known plenty of privilaged white kids who feel it's their duty to stand up for the oppressed (even when the "oppressed" don't personally feel they are opressed). In fact, I'd have to say honkies are the most easily offended guys I've ever seen - at least the ones who have some kind of wacky pre-concieved notionof what it must be like to not be a privileged white guy.

The context in which you mentioned was about mob mentality but the concepts are completely intertwined.
    Divide, dehumanize and induce fear.

Hey I just go by my own experiences. I also need to remind myself of the demographic of the board. Which if you think about, disproves your theory.

You've gotta be kidding me. Unless of course you're saying that the majority of the people here aren't white middleclass males. I've seen a few different message boards and TGR far and away takes the cake for thin skinned easily offended douches. I'm not saying everyone here is like that or even that the majority are, but there are a lot of sensative db's here.

Of course its relatively privileged white middle class males. And I see posts across the political/ideological spectrum.

I don't understand why someone that takes a differing view from you on racism is "thin skinned and easily offended". I see your point of view, however most people don't live with your level of enlightenment. I guess its the intent behind the words that help mold each human interaction that are the most important.

I dont doubt your intent, but I also don't discount what underlies many others.

Oh, it's not just racism (actualy - bigotry). There are all kinds of people here who get their panties in a knot over pretty much anything from Eddie Vedder to Fritschi Freerides to Mormons to Alta to Guitar Hero III. That's what makes TGR so great. I think there's a definet line beyond which being offended is perfectly understandable, but for a lot of guys here the line doesn't even exsist - everything is over the line.

Technology(online debate in this case) has and will continue to greatly outpace societies ability to adapt.

    Makes for a fascinating future.

    Wakan. Tanka. Hoka hey.

The Lakota are a great people. And they are not Sioux. That was their enemies name for them.

I wish they had more respect and freedom.
