    Refridgerate Peanut Butter?

So I just opened up a jar of Teddie Old Fashioned Peanut Butter. I love the shit. But after mixing the oil on top with the rest of the contents, I discovered it says "Stir and Refridgerate" on the top of the jar. Ive never refridgerated peanut butter in my life and didnt know you had to. Am I missing the boat on this, or is it commonplace to chill PB?

I always thought the cabinet was fine.

Lack of Preservatives in that Hippie PB means you put it in the Fridge. No such problems with Skippy or Jif.

I buy the cheap stuff because it's so full of un-natural goodness I don't have to.

I had a college roomate that didn't refigerate this jar of spagetti sauce (Prego or Ragu) after he opened it. He would always buy the largest jar he could too. After much urging by the rest of us he changed his mind.

    Crazy Richard's is my favorite.

    From their site.

How can I stir the peanut butter?

Oil separation occurs naturally without hydrogenated oils. Refrigeration retards this oil separation. Krema finely grinds select peanuts to create our unique creamy texture which remains smooth and spreadable 'even when refrigerated.' To stir, slide a stiff butter knife down the inside of the jar; while rotating gently, pull blade toward the center of the jar, allowing the oil to fill the space created. Rotate the jar as you gently raise and lower the blade in the center of the jar in a mixing motion until the desired consistency is reached. You may refrigerate the jar to slow the oil separation, but it is not necessary.

Another trick is to throw it in there upside down. The oil floats on top and when you mix it up, you don't get quite all of it mixed in. The makes sure you saturate the oil all the way through.

the two main reasons for refridgerating the natural peanut butter is to prevent the oil from separating and to prevent the peanut butter from going rancid. lots of oil + no preservatives = possible rancidity.

if you can get through a jar without it tasting funky, no need to refridgerate. personally, i buy the natural peanut butter and dont refridgerate it because its a bitch to spread when cold.

Good move. If I leave it out it gets too runny and makes a mess. Oh and we love that stuff, and this stuff

People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

    Mmmmmmmmm... Peanut Butter.

Refridgeration makes it much easier to deal with, no peanut oil all over the counter to piss your wife off.

I put the Adams Natural in the fridge. If it gets too thick I just microwave it for 20 seconds. Mmm mm goodness. We go through so much peanut butter it is mind blowing.

Nasty shit can grow if you don't. Skippies has more preservatives then peanuts.

I eat a PB&J for lunch about 3 days out of five. A small jar of Adams lasts a couple weeks and doesn't go bad in that time unrefigerated.

    Store in refer until empty.

Elvis was fond of peanut butter and bacon sandwiches, fried in a stick of butter. Supposedly his colon weighed >40 lbs. Just sayin...
