    Powspatulanouk

I cant sell my 165 powder pluses for anything, so I think I am going to make a project out of them. Making a weird ass ski that I think would be pretty badass. So the goal of this project is to make a powspatula with reverse camber in the front tips only, a significant amount of reverse camber. And a swallowtail.

So here are the steps I am planning.

    1) Take the bindings off, and get the topsheets sandblasted to the metal.

    2) Set the binding up in the stairs like everyone else, but move the skis higher up the stairs to achieve bending on the tips only.

    3) This is what I might need some advice on... I want to anneal the metal topsheet to get some more strength out of them. I could take a blowtorch or something to it, but I am worried about melting/burning out the bases.

    4) Once done with that, break out the bandsaw and cut a swallowtail. Epoxy the newly exposed area.

    5) Make new topsheets. Maybe a paper graphic and do a clear fiberglass over that. I think I want to do a black graphic with a picture of Jesus on it. Maybe Louis Vitton.

    6) Mount up with demo binders, and try to sell them if it works.

    7) Using the money I make selling the powspatulanouks, buy a pair of 180 powder pluses and make a bitchin version of the PSN's.

    Any thoughts/tips?

I figured that since I will not be skiing switch on these skis, ever, I would make the tips sink as much as possible. It seems as though the zero camber tails would help to get the tails to sink, and the rocker in the tips would help them float. Then the swallowtail would only magnify that effect. Is my logic right on that one? It seems like these would be an absolutely ripping ski for a strong girl or a smaller guy.

There will be a full TR.

Isn't the swallowtail gonna make them ski.........
    even shorter?
I won't draw any conclusions yet but that sounds like a lot of fun.

Well, the length is only 165 because I only have 165s. It would be a shame to ruin a pair of 180s, and if it ends up making sense, I plan on doing this to a 180cm model. The swallowtail shouldn't have that much of an effect on length, in terms of effective edge anyway.

Plus, it would look really badass. Not gonna lie.

At some point, doesn't too much shovel float start to make a ski a little sluggish?
    And tippy towards the tail?

How much you want for the 165 PPs? I'd buy if the price is right.

What is with the sudden interest? You are all about a week too late from buying them for 100 dollars with atomic 4.12s. http://tetongravity.com/forums/showt...ghlight=Powder I have too much thought into this project to turn back now.

I think you are going to want the finished product. I see potential marketing to the people here.

I wanted them to do the same thing to them. (for my gf...xmas present)

I love the idea, best of luck.

First Xmas, I pimped out some poles for her...seriously, fur, paint to match her jacket, diamonds and shit. They were ILL. (since we had only been dating for a few weeks, I couldn't buy something expensive...it would look over the top, but then again I couldn't get something totally standard and expect her to dig it...thus, the poles)

Next xmas hid some BC gear in her backyard and made her find it...like a treasure hunt (backpack, probe, etc...and it was locked, she had to guess the code)

This xmas I'd love to do what you are talking about. Only paint the skis my style. Louis Vitton would be sick. Her friends get a bag, she gets skis.

EDIT: My only thought was that you could sell them to me and do this proper to a pair of 180s so you don't have to do this twice. You think it's a good idea to "try" once but really you'll get burnt out on it. Trust me.

    to OP:
sounds like an awful lot of work for something which might fail in the end anyway. might not be able to seal the swallow properly, letting moisture in, breaking the skis, and they might ski like shit anyway. why not just do the bendy job first, put some binders on the skis and find out if the skis have changed to the direction that you wanted them to change. and after that if you think its worth it, do the fancy topsheets and swallowtails.

Jeffrey, if you want to track down and trade some 180s...?

Keksie, This is mostly for fun. I think if they didnt work, they would become garage wall adornment. I might wait to cut the swallowtail, but if I can fully saturate the wood with epoxy it will seal. And I can not cut a massive swallowtail. Everything would be done as inexpensively as possible, BTW.

Like I said, it would be more of a shame, and more of an expense to kill 180s, unless someone wants to trade... soon.

And Damien, even if this snaps in half on the first 5 feet of their expedition, I will still have been more successful than the creators of that junkshow.

    Thanks for the input.

Do you want my 180 Pow Plusses? $125+ship (w/o bindings); you can pass your 165s to Jeffrey for the same price; everyone's happy.

I've been waiting for some snow in Tahoe so I can ski them back-to-back with Axioms (bought over the summer, haven't skied them yet), but from the hand-flex comparisons, I'm pretty sure I'll keep the Axioms and not the Pow +.

But if you're really looking for some, I'll sell you mine now. They're the yellow base generation; topsheets are spray-canned black (holding up well), regular camber (not spatulated). Several ptex repairs -- these were my early-season skis last year, so they took some hits to the bases. Very durable skis. They don't need any repair work currently.

Edges aren't sharp, but they're intact (no compressions or pullouts). Skis are currently drilled for Salomon 997 at 316 BSL, but I'd rather keep the bindings (or make me an offer if you want them). Skis were previously drilled for an offset-mounted binding (Marker? don't recognize the hole pattern).

El Chup, that sounds like it might be a good idea.

There is some damage on my skis, but all repairable. If it is to the core, it is just barely there.

Jeffrey, any interest in 100 + ship and you get well used 9.12 demos instead of 4.12s? They still work fine, but they are cosmetically rough. Much lighter though.

The powspatulanouks might be getting longer...

    Go forth w/the 65s

Although I still think you'd be smart to put the 65s on ebay (there is a pair w/bindings going for over 110 right now...and yes, they are 65s)

No sense in doing this twice!

Not sure on the swollow tail.

Need some "top sheet how to" advice. I really want a designer topsheet...
