    South Florida Sucks

<Smokey> And you know this, man.

October and early November were fun down here. College football, barbecueing, and surfing it up a couple days a week. We had chunky choppy windswell -- shit by most standards but surfable and fun seemed like 2 days a week. Then a good cold front and TS Noel came through early November and I got into some clean head-high blue waves in clear water. It ruled and I was stoked for a Florida winter.

Then shit dried up, and how. There's been nothing. Sunday was 2 feet and choppy but I hit it with relish and it didn't satisfy.

Come on. It's winter. There should be something down here. Anything. Cold fronts. Wind swell.

It's been so warm and flat even the fishing sucks.

    Shizzle.

When I said South Florida blows you huffed and puffed and blew my shit down. At least when it's hot ya get 2 days of chunky windswell. Can't make this shit up. Shall we copy and paste?

    Skeet:

Are you talking about where I called South Florida a surf mecca? I was joking, trying to bring light to a cunted thread. And after your reply, which I thought was a joke, too, I went on a mom joke tirade. That was fun shit, btw, thanks for that.

Barnballs: I'd love to get into the cold. It's like 85 degrees here now. Seriously. It's wierd.

Don't you worry man, it is coming. Get over to Ski Rixen in Deerfield Beach to keep yourself busy. This is a weird one so far. We have not been this hot in December, since I've been here. Someone forgot to turn on what little winter we get here this year.

Any time you are near Tampa or St Petersburg, give me a shout. It is always 2-3 ft behind my boat. Just picked up an old 21 ft Mako with a 200 Yami on it. She wakeboards and wakeskates nice. Wakesurfing on an outboard? Prolly not- but you are free to try it if you like.

As your discovering, you live in what may be the worst spot in Fl for surf.

The Bahamas knock down any decent ocean swell and wind generated waves. Being so close to land at that point, the Gulf stream doesn't help either.

The only good news is that since most winter cold fronts travel northwest to southeast, you can get some decent wind related activities in.

For surfing, think Fall and spring. Winter= Kiteboard or windsurf. Summer move away.

If your wife doesn't want you to take out a life insurance policy to kiteboard, go windsurfing.
All my good gear is in Key West but I have an old funboard rig around here that you can use. I think it has a 6.4 and a 4.1 if I remember right.

I'm about two and a half hours from you, come and get it if you want to use it.

With the shit show that's about to hit your area in the form of tourist season, It'll help you keep your sanity

Biscayne Bay has some real shallow areas that are absolutely sweet for learning. That said, I gave it up years ago due to an almost ugly incident. Got dragged about a mile, and hit land in just the right spot, or I was gone- until I hit Texas or Mexico, that is. Never took the kite out again. Did I mention that this all happened in an area known as Hammerhead Highway? I was bleeding at the time, due to a cut from the Spectra line. I was basically trolling myself for shark. Sweet.

It is a lonely unforgiving sport. Of course, it is a bit safer now, but fuck that. I like being alive and having the use of my limbs. The boat always comes and picks me up afeter wakeskating.

If you really want some good instruction, my buddy runs the collegiate kiteboarding circuit, out of Eckerd College. Guy will have you flying high in 2 days.

Google Kitesurf the earth. That dude(Paul Menta) is cool shit. I rode with him down in Key West once. He lent me a lunch tray type board, and I didn't almost kill myself that weekend. It was real fun. He instructs out of Key West and Biscayne, depends on the wind or the women, or both.

^^^Gravity can be a cruel mistress at times, however you can damage yourself in any number of ways.

Quick story: A long time ago we were doing the dawn patrol to catch the flat morning water. (wakeboarding)
I was driving the boat and my buddy was carving up a narrow channel with flats on either side. He landed a little off center and spun out into the flats, the board hit the edge of the flat and flipped up right as he tumbled forward.
He caught the board right in the ribs, needless to say he was on injured reserve for awhile and this was just wakeboarding, much less kiteboarding.

Who was this unfortunate fellow with the damaged ribs?.... Paul Menta

And there it is, we came full circle, we turned Frizzo's rant into a mini, Hijack complete.

The strength of my knee will determine where I am in Feb, Strong=Wolf creek or Taos, Weak= Fl

If I am still here we'll do it up big in KW, Paul 1) for fishing and Paul 2) for air time. Plus I know a bartender or two down there.

Manatee is me from back in the day. Though I'm taking on the shape of a Sea Cow now that we're in FL. Ugh.

Anyhoo, Feb will be tough, but is possible. We're having a baby mid-March and a good friend is getting married mid-Feb. It may be tough to get away, but the Mrs. digs it'll be even tougher after the little one comes so she may let me go.

I'll go rub her feet and talk to her.

Hmm- I don't know what that is like. I am the sick fuck that bought a boat a month after our kid was born. It is our ONLY escape these days. I reckon it'll only get easier the next coming months.

2nd kid- congrats. I am not sure if we have another one in us.

Hook- If you are hitting Taos, let me know. My buddy just moved there, and we are trying to get there for at least a long weekend this year.

Oh yeah, and the surfing north of Pompano get decidedly better. Deerfield Beach and the pier there used to be a real blast in the winter. It made my stay there somewhat tolerable.

The Mrs. was getting on board with buying a boat until she got pregnant. Sucks but I suppose I'm partially to blame .

I've been up to Deerfield to surf Trespass. It was super fun. There's a cold front coming through so hopefully that'll kick up something.

My buddy's wedding is in Tampa. Maybe I'll head over early and mooch off ya .

Mooch away. When is the wedding? I got lots of fishing poles, some good spots to actually catch fish, and lots of time right now. Work is, and will be, dead until January. I am going fishing at least 3 times this week with "customers".

    Come on over.
