How to keep yourself from getting a DWI

Spend a day with a friend as they get ready to go into the lockup, then drive them there.

Imagine that it is you in their situation, and imagine that 15 bucks into the hand of a cabby would have kept them from having to get taken away.

Then drive to work in a reflective mood.

Or just tell the cop: "No you're driving under the influence, of being a jerk!"

I've had a few people I know get DWI's. One guy I know had to wait for 5 years to get it cleared off his record so he could apply for the police force. Always spring for the cab.
Yep, seen this before. Crazy liquor & cheeseburger party got out of control.

Do the math. unless you are unhappy that you're not paying enough to lawyers/insurance companies/your state and local government.

Three step to avoiding a DUI:

    1) Don't drink. Simple enough.

    2) Don't get trashed and drive. Everyone knows better. Don't be an idiot. I don't have much sympathy for DUI convicts because it's extremely rare that someone physically forced alcohol into your bloodstream.

    3) Call for a freaking ride! There's no shame in calling a friend or a cab for that matter. They'll forgive you!

    4) If you get charged with one, find the local lawyer that can bribe your way out of it. Every county has one (or more). Ask around first, so you know who to go to when the time comes.

I'm used 3 of these 4 in my life and been successful. Good luck.

Those are correct skidawg BUT, this post wasn't so much about the "proper" way to avoid one.

Of course don't drink, you tell a kid that though and they start looking for the liquor bottle.

Empathy is something that is being sorely missed.

The real ability to connect and feel the situation that someone else is being placed in.

Telling someone to not do something largely results in them going out and doing it. Having them see the result first hand is more permanent.

    get one dui.

have open container in your truck, go through a yellow/red, get probation revoked for alcohol violation

get another dui, spend sixty days in halfway house.
have state mandated breath alayzer installed in your truck that must be blown green every ten minutes the motor is running or it will die and roll to side of road. extra benefit is putting lift kit on truck so it's easy to crawl under and change own oil because you are not going to have anybody blowing in your tube.

I firmly believe it's a repetition thing just like everything else. Poke yourself over and over and sooner or later you get good at it, reference my bump skiing...Drive enough times with a 3 or 4 beer buzz and it's no problem. Not that I'm recommending that, it's just my belief and knowing alot of alcoholics driving around. Hell even truckers that snort 8 balls daily drive better than most idiots do sober, probably me included.

but yeah that doing time thing, icky.

    Thumbs down

Wish I had a tally of the number of hours and the amount of money I spent 7 yrs ago for mine.

Insurance $$$ Only takes years to come back down.

Alcohol Classes once week for 25 weeks$$$$

Sitting in a County lock up for 48 hours Time that will never be replaced.

Writting on job applications that you have been convicted of a misdemeanor, and hoping they overlook it.

Not worth getting home, laid, to another party, whatever. Walk if you have to.

It will be the longest most drawn out experience of your life.

    Coincidence?

I'm tooling down the Mass Pike at 8:57 (well on to way of protecting my 50% on time performance) and what do I spy in the lane next to me but a Suby wagon with two bumpah stickahs the one on the top proudly sports the Teton Gravity Research logo and the one below says Please Don't Drive Drunk.

Ladies and Gentlemen the mag/minion driving/temperance movement has gone nationwide.

BTW -- my .02 -- Have a good time but Get a cab, Get a place to stay but Get the fuck out from behind the wheel if you've been drinking!

Hurl on a cop's lap as he's taking you to lock up.

Extra points if he's a "good ole' boy" type. Yep, that nightstick sure felt good across the back of my head.

in addition to all lawyer, court, and misdemeanor fees, an aquantaince had to take 20 alcohol classes @ 110.00/ per class. court ordered.
and he pays 4 grand a year in car insurance.

He got off easy, considering he could have killed someone...

Appearances can be deceiving, but this guy didn't look like any mildbill type to me. (No bike rack, appeared to have all his appendages and was travelling at less than 100 mph.)

18 monthly visits to see one of your best buddies, trying to make positive conversation while he cries through a telephone handset on the darker side of a piece of bulletproof glass in a cold concrete room.
