Yes. And not always a headache necessarily, but just makes me feel shitty, slightly nauseous, etc. Felt a little stuffed up. Been using the neti pot to clear it out.

And I agree, feels like the hottest/driest summer in my ~16 years here. Remember when we used to get afternoon t storms like clockwork?

Wildfire is brutal with no A/C. You either have to have the windows open and eat smoke or close them and cook in the hot box.

No shit, and the smoke here is thickest in the late afternoon/evening when everything is finally cooling down and you want the windows open. Sleeping has been sweaty and shitty.

I read it's the driest/warmest since '02 and that drought summer sucked....the summer of the Hayman Fire. We had about 4 days of monsoon weather in late July this summer......no bueno.

Some nice Room AC options at $200 or less. AC, swamp coolers, etc. if you’re in a super pinch, a bucket of water with a towel rigged to hang halfway in/ halfway out of the water, fan blowing on towel.

Exactly. Then the animals either climb on you or push you out of bed.

I have a large HEPA unit (CADR 300 for smoke) in the living room and ordered another for the bedroom (CADR 200) as I've been moving it back and forth every day. It makes it manageable with windows open as long as the PM2.5 AQI is less than about 120 and the winds aren't high/aligned with the windows. I'd guess it cuts the indoor PM in half.

i bitched and moaned when i was pressed to put in an ac unit at the house...... so dam glad i did it now. i have terrible allergies and smoke is bad for me.

i have an old small window ac unit and stand up type if anyone needs one. they would work good for small spaces, keep my rather large house somewhat tolerable in years past. on front range just pm.

edit: the smoke is really bugging the eyes (itchy and watering), sinus head ache by end of day if I am out in it too long.

If you have casement windows like I do, portable and window AC is a no go. You need single/double hung or slider.

The Evap coolers that have a flex tube and a variable size rectangle plate to stick into the window opening work surprisingly well. I’ve never owned one but did some remodeling/painting in a house that had one last July. Kept the whole (small) house in the mid 70’s when it was 100 outside.

Lots of single women, no mud season goes straight from biking to skiing (pre apocalypse) plentiful produce at the markets, more business commerce, better single family house prices, lots of winter sunshine, fast melting roads, but we’ve beat that subject to death.

you can usually rig a portable ac, but it will likely be ugly as shit, will have to be semi-permanent, and won't work all that great.

I cut down a piece of OSB and painted it the color of my casement window for my portable AC unit. Looks...meh, but works and easy enough to pop in and out.

This piece didn't have me feeling better about the Grizzly Creek burn
    https://coloradosun.com/2020/08/19/g...western-water/

Glenwood Canyon is going to be jacked up for some time. But there's a thread for that.

Major appreciation to everyone fighting these blazes in the absurd heat...it can't be comfortable.

The coming rock/mudslides will be all time I'm afraid. Buckle up for the long haul on common I70 closures

Might get a rain shower here in a sec.

Got an alert about a smoke sighting on NY Mtn. Basically said, we know, don’t call unless you see flames.
    Awesome.

Got a little sprinkle tonight and the smoke is cleared out for now, windows are open thankfully. Yesterday sucked.
