The smoke has arrived in the 4-corners.
2" new on June 22.
Anyone been on Berthoud Pass this week? Is there continuous snow down to the parking lot/road on both the west and east sides? Or are you hiking up a ways to snowline?
Planned on skiing Berthoud yesterday 6/21 but the melt out on both sides of the road meant a long hike with skis before ski-able snow. So we went to Jones Pass instead and after a short walk on the Jones Pass road past the avalanche debris (and shrine to deceased skier) we encountered more bowls full of corn than we could ski before everything slushed out.

Anybody get out today?

Where's summer. Below freezing and snowing in Golden Gate Canyon today. At least it keeps the dumbass level motorcycle noise and bicycle population lower.
Was chased off the mountain by windslab and snow sandblasting my face this fine summer day. Nice change from the usual wet slides and rock fall. Made a few nice turns and a bunch of terrible ones. Anybody choose the right line at the right time today?
It snowed ALL day. That's pretty cool.
Looks like at least one week of summer ahead.
Was up there today. Really good! The fresh snow really smoothed everything out. July 4th for sure!

Sloppy but fun at treeline yesterday

ABasin just announced they’re open on the 4th.
Rollins/Corona Pass is still covered in snow. From Winter Park, the gate was closed about 4 miles from the top at the first trestle. I did a bit of patch skiing, but it wasn’t what I had hoped for. A short hike gave a view of Forest Lake bowl and it looked full an inviting. Then 2 hours of dry single track from the red gate in Frasier and a close encounter with a large moose.
Any info on the approach from the east? I assume it is closed at the cut out.

I'm sure you don't care and I'm sure it is no secret as I'm sure it is promoted all over other parts of the internet but...if you want continued access through the red gate it is best to not talk about the red gate. Then 2 hours of dry single track from the red gate in Frasier
The situation is tenuous at best. There is no legal parking and there is access via public lands. Over the course of the last 25+ years this trailhead has been somewhat viable due to locals working behind the scenes and a tolerant land owner/ranch manager.
Over the course of the last 5 years, there have been multiple incidents with trespass, retarded parking, disrespect for the neighbors and general entitled douchbaggery.
My advice, take it or leave it, is park on the side roads away from the blind corner away from peoples driveways, get your bikes on and off your cars quickly and respect the easements.
This isn't a locals/tourists thing. Recent events have actually features a clueless prominent local. That said...don't do that. People hate that.Frasier
The Red Gate gets mentioned on Facebook by the Headwaters Trail Alliance. If it's of such questionable status that it should be kept quiet, they don't seem to know it.

Clear enough? Self entitled bunch of public funded but not publicly accountable grandstanders that love to have a volunteer work day to get one turnpike done just to have there picture in the paper. Go read there 100+ commissioned mission document/ manifesto full of excuses about what they can't get done. They are on thin ice. I hope the county commissioners pull there funding and we handle public land advocacy at the government level.
Bored? Do me a favor, ask on there Facebook Page where you are supposed to park. Maybe start with "I see that there is no parking on County Roads. I heard about an incident when the Sheriff was giving ticket?"
