    Meanwhile in Lake City:

A home on Hinsdale County CR 30 was hit by an avalanche in the early morning of March 12. Everyone who was involved has been located and evacuated. Injuries are being assessed and treated.

9:30 a.m., March 12: Due to the potential for continued avalanche danger, Hinsdale County is recommending residents living on Bluff Street and anyone living at the bottom of a steep slope consider leaving their homes as a cautionary measure. The Lake City Armory is open. An avalanche evaluator is headed to Lake City at this time to assess the current threat. Updates will be posted to this page and the Hinsdale County Facebook page, as they occur.

AS OF 8:30 A.M., TUESDAY, MARCH 12, COUNTY ROAD 30 (BY LAKE SAN CRISTOBAL) AND COUNTY ROAD 20 (HENSON CREEK ROAD) ARE CLOSED DUE TO EMERGENCY OPERATIONS AND AVALANCE DANGER.

PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE BACK COUNTRY AND OFF HWY 149 AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. SNOW SLIDES ARE POSSIBLE SOUTH AND NORTH OF LAKE CITY.

My wife’s students house and family. Fucking crazy! Sounds like Injuries but no one killed. Sounds like some animals may have died.

Full on spring in Denver till the clouds came in. Lots of mountain biking/trail running going on in the foothills before this blizzard hits.

62° in Denver and they’ve already cancelled school tomorrow. The masses are coming but I70 will close 5 times minimum so don’t worry.

I have no idea. Fucking people at the grocery store were losing their fucking minds.

All I needed was some smoked gouda and heavy cream.

Have read some pretty objective takes that low pressure records could be set...it's not gonna be 3 feet of snow, but should be a doozy of an overall event.

If I had a kid I'd be fine with them off from school. Maybe as a non-parent I'm not fit to comment on such matters. That said, thinking about a bus in a 50mph whiteout tomorrow afternoon with children on board somewhere in the Denver metro with all the donks about? Even if the bus driver is a ninja, no thanks.

They still use buses? I thought all the special snowflakes get driven to school?

I can confirm the continued existence of school buses, as my kid takes one every day to school. But not tomorrow.

From the gj nws forecast discussion: "500mb vorticity progs from 0z tonight through tomorrow afternoon depict a spectacular phasing of these two systems, resulting in explosive cyclogenesis over the eastern high plains."

And the Denver forecast discussion: "Lowest surface pressure from the RAP and ECMWF models show the low bottoming out at 973mb over northwest Kansas. This low of surface pressure is in the range of category two hurricanes."

    So yeah, bomb cyclone.
