The cornice collapse triggered a slab avalanche. These both scoured the choke.

They did go to Moonshine (the line) so clearly there was intent, but I don't know that they had made the decision to ski the line. I'm sure CAIC will clear this up in their report.

How’s coverage? Especially at the entrances?

That’s a gnarly fucking line to ski in this snowpack, at this time of year. Balls of steel.

Bad, like worst I've ever seen, but once you get through they get better. It's only fun cause every thing else sucks so bad.

ABasin was surprisingly good today. Firm chalk most places, with a bit of softening on Zuma. Coverage still kinda shitty. But that's just more obstacles to dodge.

Sure would be fun to lap upper mountain / lower east wall if that lift didn't suck so much.

Is this a line you can see from the road? Drove past a ton, but never toured up there

No. You can't even see it from the top. It is a heavy entrance. Guidebook suggests going up the gut in the spring.

    3. Cornices will fuck you hard
this - #1! Broke my leg 2 years ago near Silverton BC. Fortunately for me, it was the first time we were 'truly' ready and had 2 way radios. Still would be out there had I not had one...lots of times, we 'had' them, but we added them to our beacon test step and made sure we were listening/charged etc...

A friend of mine tore her acl on a hut trip a couple of years ago, she wasn't very close to the hut and we had to figure out how to get her out. We had some radios and they saved our bacon. But we needed more, we had some snafus because not every person had one.

    Lesson learned.

Super warm next week. Mid 70s in Denver. Shit is gonna melt fast.
Could this season really be worse than ‘12?!

I don’t think it is in Summit or WP, but it is in Eagle.
Hopefully a good storm cycle starts late next week.

So the wife and I had a few drinks last night including a midnight ride to the store for a last sixer on the premise that with the conditions being what they've been, it was a good weekend to do chores, including swapping on the summer tires.

Looking now and WP got something like 5" and I bet its skiing really nice today on that [reported] 60" base. Wonder if that 3" at Eldora was enough to max out the lot.
If we're gonna wear uniforms, we should all wear somethin' different!

^^ save me from this. Any of you Boulder mags wanna ride up to Eldora for some afternoon groomers and pocket beers in the flat light? I can be in Boulder in about 20 minutes, gas on me. Don't feel like going SOV or taking the bus. PM me.

Crazy thing is, people are still going skiing and having a blast. I rent out a condo over there and haven't had a single cancellation, booked solid since before xmas.

I was at The Beav this week and had a blast. Found some soft, fun powder in Upper Stone Creek Chutes, found coverage in Royal Elk Glade not as bad as I expected and was alone in there, and tore up and down the groomers all day in the sun.

I'm sick so I only lasted a few runs, but it was skiing pretty decent. Snowed hard at times. Stopped by the time we left, 30 minutes ago.

thats because most people live by the idea that there is never a bad day in the moutains
but then you start asking and listening to the front range tgr premaddonas and they'll tell you every thing has to be perfect or they won't bother, excuses are awesome

IMO, there is never a bad day in the mountains, and the worst day skiing is better than the best day working.

yeah, I looked at the lunch rock cam a few times and it looked like it was coming down pretty good. Watching the snowstake, looks like they picked up 2-3" more before 3pm or so. Nice. Glad you got out.
