If Snowmass is open then Ajax and/or Highlands will also be open. I can't remember Snowmass ever being the only mountain that was open for the "extended season". I believe they make the call on Ajax vs Highlands depending on conditions... if there's not enough snow for top to bottom skiing then they do Ajax because you can easily ski the upper mountain and then download on the gondola.

Glorious weather out there. Snow got a little manky in the afternoon.

This discussion revolves around staffing. Snowmass is a staff hog, Highlands less so, Ajax you can have like 12 people run that whole place (not literally, but not too far off).

It can also depend on off-season projects.

    ^^Very true.

It's usually Highlands for the two post season weekends and Ajax for Memorial Day.
I haven't heard anything yet, but Skico seams committed and the base is phat.

If they could cut a run that drops into Idaho Springs, to the doorstep of Tommyknocker, that place would blow up.

The answer is a bike park.

They need to extend the lift to treeline on Chief mnt, all the good snow is on the other side of the road

Only been to Echo once, but is there even enough vert off the lift for a bike park? IIRC someone was trying to do something that went all the way down to Idaho Springs at one point but hit roadblocks, probably from property owners. A continuous shuttle DH trail from Echo to Idaho Springs, Evergreen, or Conifer would be pretty sick.

If Sol Vista has enough vert for a park, Echo does too.

Fair enough. It would be cool.

I've always wondered why there isn't a lift served DH park somewhere on the FR. Heritage Square would be perfect. Something like that could run almost year round, and be that close to Denver would absolutely kill it. Visible from I70=free advertising? $$$$$

Last night was crazy. Can't imagine how windy it's been closer to the divide this winter given how windy it's been here this winter.

I actually hope that Echo bikepark doesn't happen because Keystone and Trestle need the Front Rangers to support trail development and maintenance beyond greens and blues. But Echo at less than an hour from downtown and cool mountain elevations makes sense.

Starting to look a little like the first dust storm of the season in Durango. Really hope this doesn't end up with a dust layer in the high country.

Yep. I was looking the storm last night thinking it looked like dust. But I always think that these days. It's dust

I think that I actually got first and second chair at the Basin this morning. Nobody there. Cold and windy, but dress right and keep moving it wasn't bad. Snow was actually soft and smooth in the right spots...
