i simply sent you a recent photo of people skiing the line i was asking about.

I don't want to further any controversy, but as you may know, Telluride just got 18" of new snow. Just curious if you have plans to go over now and ski any lines like that? I know the back country avy danger is pretty high right now and may take some time to settle out, but you probably should be able to find some powder in bounds.

^^ yesterday was a great example of why the "Vail/Summit" zone should be separated on the CAIC, rating was considerable because of a foot of new over there and a few inches here. The area we skied in Summit had plenty of steep and deep though, with a more stable snowpack, so that was nice. First time this year that Vail side got more than Summit?

Little to no energy in the snow that fell in that zone, due to no wind and <5% moisture content. It was like skiing through 2' of down feathers. We were concerned with slough management in a few of the steeper spots, but that was about the extent of it.

Not criticizing anyone, just observing that avy danger went from Moderate to Considerable with 3" of new in our area, but over a foot over there.

Glad you got some good turns in. I haven't been up there in a year or two but my favorite are is in the trees off road just skiers left of that tree cut run that ends near the sledding hill. Good times

We were looking for those trees, but somehow ended up too far left, and did some thicketeering instead. In any case, the snow was MUCH better higher up. From treeline down to the road was really good.

We found the same a little west of where you were. Just 2-3' of softness, amazing day.

we need another recession to make skiing affordable again.
something came up and I got scared off by the projected winds was afraid things might not open. I agree things need to settle out. I was excited and curious earlier due to the warm storms and the stability of our snowpack here. Will probably not hit the BC till thursday it was actually too deep yesterday and got my first settlements since early December.
Did take advantage of the Wolfcreek Pass closure and skied wolfcreek with other geriatrics today. Kind of fun being the only car on the highway. Place was empty first tracks on Big Drop in Waterfall and the numbered chutes. Refills all day. Got cold so stopped for lunch. Barbeque brisket special,$10 brisket, potato salad, baked beans and choice of desert. I chose the chocolate cake. It was awesome. Looks like its great skiing everywhere now. I would of sent you a PM to say thanks for the heads up and discuss conditions but i didn't want you to think I was harassing or stocking you. Lets hope for the continuation of the good skiing.

No problem, I wouldn't consider it harassing. Funny how things can go sideways in these internet exchanges without anyone really intending it.

I like Wolf Creek, and that waterfall area has some pretty steep runs. (Not that I, personally, seek out the really hairy stuff like I used to do in younger days). But Telluride takes it to another level entirely. Hope you get a chance to experience it while you are still in Colorado. Best wishes!

Today was a bit of a blowdown day, but a good one. Silver Queen was closed from the wind, but the high lift was running if you hiked for it. So it stayed good all day. Otherwise, no front side, and only the north face (no phoenix/spellbound)

Thanks I saw your website. I have a friend coming in Wednesday. He is a blue groomer skier. I was going to take him to Monarch and maybe we can take advantage of the two for one deals and hit crested butte. I think the quality inn is pet friendly and they also had a discount lift ticket. I got burned when I ran up there for the big dump. The town and hill needed some time to digest it. This storm chasing can be tricky. Hope to hit Telluride this seems like a good winter for it.

Ok. Try this again! Me and a buddy are rolling into Aspen this evening for the xgames. We are coming from north Idaho and trailering the the full setup for Timbersled. We have races Friday and setting up sometime tonight or tomorrow. Do not know the area, but strong bc skiers with proper knowledge. Brought touring gear. Looking to try and get out for one day. Any suggestions around the Aspen area? Be cool to hook up with someone that is going out! Unfortunately, the six full kits are not available to rip! Thanks!

I am not familiar with aspen backcountry terrain so unfortunately I can not be of much help to you, however I would say that Aspen Highlands, particularly highlands bowl is absolutely worth a day of skiing

Marble is the best, but it's about an hour from Buttermilk.
Green Mountain's about 15 minutes up Castle Creek. Park at Ashcroft and head up Express Creek.

Or

Take the free bus from Buttermilk to Highlands. Skin up to the bowl and lap that.

I literally follow this post, Ski RV's, and the I-70 bitch thread while looking at nothing else. I know nothing about anybody on here but I constantly get these two guys mixed up. Mary Jane is good today, nothing unbelievable but weekday skiing is always good.

Damn the Basin was good this AM. Pali, East Wall, Zuma Cornice were pretty deep in the right spots.
