Thanks that is good info someone saying that 50 inches is enough for Telluride. I suck at hardpack maybe try and time it when they get 6 inches fresh or so.

CBAC, Jan 6, 2017: "This season is shaping up nicely and our snowpack is transitioning from the classic continental regime of shallow, persistent weak layers plaguing the whole season, to a deeper, (eventually) more stable snowpack, with management of surface instabilities after big loading events rather than worrying about the deep lurking persistent weak layer monsters threatening the entire snowpack. "
That said, they are absolutely discussing current deep slab problems currently.
Hopefully like 2011 when we were banging out heavy steep backcountry lines in mid-winter.
It is supposed to snow this weekend, but didn't see a prediction on how much. Like any other resort, new snow on most runs gets tracked out quickly, so you had better be there the morning after the dump if you want some untouched powder. There are some hike-to terrain inbounds where the powder lasts longer, like on Mt Baldy, and also stashes in the trees. There are also several back country access gates, but I don't have any more information on that front.
Yeah, it will be really interesting to see how things shape up. We could end up with a really stable snowpack. I'm cautiously optimistic.
I ain't ready to poke that dragon just yet though. You can probably get away with murder right now, but the consequences of getting caught are instant death penalty with no trial.
Unbelievable coverage everywhere!
Hey, newbie here.
I am a skiing snow obsessed weather forecaster. I was wondering if this was the forecasting thread or if there are others?
Thanks

Now that we have a ton of snow and finally a bomber snow-pack out here in the Sierra (until last week we'd been dealing with continental-like hazards), naturally I'm leaving town. The first week of February I'll be staying a few nights with friends at the Walter Hut at Shrine Mountain off Vail pass. Anyone have any beta or zones / lines in the vicinity we should look to hit depending on conditions / stability?
1st and 2nd notch were fun this morning. North pole is open... in motha fuckin January. Snowing hard up there.
