I count this as the 5th bust of the season in storm forecasts. Not saying it's a bad season, but something I've noticed. Extremely light snow falling in Vail this morning. Hope it picks up, after 4pm.

Early Jan often has low totals. Just be glad we haven't had a 2 week drought like we've had more than a few times. Jives well with a trip to Japow.

How is it a "bust" when the forecasts (NOAA, OpenSnow) were calling for 1"-3", maybe 2"-4" thru last night and that's exactly what the mountains are reporting this morning?

I'm thrilled with how the season has been going. No snow until mid-November and no real dry stretches is keeping things good and covered and stable. Spring is going to be amazing if this keeps up.

Sorry to break from the USS Butthurt Express.

I guess I did ask on the conditions thread. Just looking for some options that are white and steep enough to make turns. Was wondering about east portal? My sister is pointing me towards steamboat and rabbits ear motel for next few days

NW flow will probably mean better snow at Berthoud, Jones Pass, and Steamboat but could be Vail etc too.
If you're looking for lift served Steamboat is prob the best bet, although you could go to Buffalo Pass and possibly get hooked up with some snow machine skiers.

If staying Front Range and want BC then I'd hit Berthoud or Butler/jones pass

Glad to know that you speak for all machine riders at Buff and Vail. How were you elected to that post? I know that a couple friends have in the past actually met up with groups up there, but I suppose in general you may be right that one couldn't bank on it.

Yeah, I sure as shit wouldn't count on it. Show up with a sled and you've got a decent chance of hooking up with someone, show up without one and try to bum rides and it's unlikely.

NW flow is usually good for Cameron Pass but it's a little remote. East Portal zone has seen a bunch of wind recently so you'd probably have to stay in protected areas which typically means low angle. There are some steep tree shots around there but the approaches are somewhat long.

Yeah it is a shitty plan unless you bring cash, grass, or ass. It is the code.

was about 3-4" on ground at open at mary jane today, MUCH deeper off challenger as wind blown in. snowed good all day, few times dumping. pano never spun so if they get it going tomorrow should be real good. couple laps on winter park side and did not seem as deep

Getting out early tomorrow for WP. Did the Panoramic and Eagle Wind Chairs spin today or were they closed/wind hold?
