What are some good, reliable touring spots fairly close to Denver for a quick morning skin and ski before class? Does St. Marys glacier area in Idaho Springs hold good/stable snow midwinter? Looking for spots with 45 min or so from DTC.

Been waiting to ski this in early winter for a few seasons now. Finally got out there on Saturday. Super fun chute with 3 small airs on the way down. So good we did a couple laps.

Nice, I went up there today and skied the face left of that. I wanted the chute, but you guys did a great job of tracking it up.

Yeah, we looked at the face too, but ended up running out of time. Thought about going out the next day, but ended up gutting CDC/Old Mans instead.

    1) there are no reliable touring spots within 45min of downtown unless your drive real fucking fast, like the Wolf.
    2) St. Mary's is a windblasted shitshow of private property with minimal legal, good, safe skiing
    3) nowhere in CO typically holds stable snow in midwinter, except this year because Ullr sucks
    4) in 1hr drive you have Butler Gulch, Jones Pass, Berthoud Pass, LL Pass, Dry Gulch/Trelease, and Herman Gulch as feasible touring options.

Gratz got burned taking the under for size on the last storm. Called for about 4", got about 40". So he's either trying to double down on the under or trying the reverse jinx so we get slammed. Hard to know. As for me, I get my weather updates from Frankie out of Nova Scotia:

Gratz does well for the NW flows in N CO when NOAA doesn't see much. For everything else, I look to NOAA.

Southern closed lows always seem to screw with the models
I can see the San Juans doing well, but who knows.

Has gone from 53 to 45 and the wind has kicked up... Sopris through the higher Elks are now socked in... hope it cooled down quick up there. I think Ajax will start skiing really well with 6" or so if it comes in a little warm.

Buttermilk was sick today for opening with the kid

Was up at purgatory for a couple laps and had a real serious band roll through around 11. Dropped 2 inches or so. Looks like the rest of the storm is catching up now. Let it snow!
