Yeah, that is what I was thinking, just a small nudge of the jet to the SW and the weather in the Colorado mountains will change drastically (to the better for out purposes). It's gonna be close.

The Monday storm will do little more than give Denverites a reality check and drop a couple fluffy inches along the divide. I'm more excited about the possibility of moisture streaming off the Pacific and across the Great Basin on Weds-Sat producing some good orographic snowfall for the CO mountains.

Dramatic temperature swings in the Great Plains are nothing new. Do some research.

Right now, the moisture in the jetstream is coming from the Arctic, way too far north to be nothing more than a blast of bitter cold and a little snow. Should help snowmaking
If that moisture source shifts to the Pacific coast, it will get interesting later in the week.
Good to see snow and cold forecasted either way!

Guy on the chair at Abasin this morning was stoked that all the mountains were "gonna get 2-3 feet this week because if it's snowing and cold in Denver then the mountains are getting slammed"

Did it look like they may open the top any day now? Any activity up there?

They were blowing up top and the section down to the lift. I'd guess they open this week.

Its a miracle what they have been able to do at A Basin considering they have had one of the warmest and driest fall periods I can remember. The weather has not been cooperating at all. The lower sun angle and the high altitude have helped. Two things that a change in climate can't screw up.

On a side note. Had a great 3 hour ride on my road bike in Denver. Amazing day for mid November.

Agree, it is amazing. What about Keystone? How bad is the one trail down?

Can't speak for Key, but Copper's run was decent. Upper mountain was a luge track, bottom section was pretty good.

Had a good time at Keystone on Friday. Felt good to do top to bottom laps and finally feel a little burn.

insert joke about burn and the people you'd meet at keystone...

It'll be an exciting week if we get the top end of the forecast, as preseason laps will be finally feasible.

Wish the cold temps would get further west. Going to be weird wearing a t-shirt for the next few days while the other side of the divide is going to be in the teens...

    Colorado Weather Discussion Thread

I was golfing in Golden this morning in a T shirt as the vortex was bearing down...the front passed as I was on 7 and it felt like I walked into a meat cooler. Now it's dumping snow!

I was out for a run when the front hit, I've been around here a while and can't remember a temperature drop that fast. Good reminder that nature is in charge.

A-Basin opening top to bottom tomorrow. Not that anyone really cares but we need to get on to the next page.

For sure. Was up doing some surveying in the river in the Raymond/Riverside area, nothing like a 30 degree drop in temp followed by about 2" of snow in 15 min to bring winter in with a bang. I knew it was coming, but was still surprised by how quick it came. Good to feel cold again!

It was snowing at least 2" an hour in blue sky today. Huge flakes and blower. I'm sure we'll be seeing people trying to ski it tomorrow.

But just for two hours? Joel predicts another few squalls this week.
