"Life happens while you're making other plans." Sounds like you need a San Juan fix.

Regarding planning for a life after 65, the biggest regret my dad had after my mom died at 65 was that they did not live more in the mean time. The recession yanked the comfortable retirement option out from under a lot of people and may be unattainable for most.

At the end of the day, pursuing the 'American Dream' and all it's contrivances and encumbrances may not be all that different than 'Living the Dream' anyway, so why not at least play hooky on a regular basis and get your fair share of face shots?

For the record, I'm in my 20s and have no kids, no mortgage and no debt of any kind.

I don't want to waste away as a washed up ski bum or as an indentured suburbanite.

I'm neither, and I'm trying like others in this thread to find (literally and figuratively) my way around the crowds of people who do fall into either category.

probably the most well said thing here, thanks

looking at the boomer generation, it's a scary thing, a few are retiring early with a good deal, most are working and dreaming of medicaid at 65 by then their health is shot and the idea of fun is pretty limited

I know one guy who is 55 ish major health problems, he's just going to not wake up one day and all I want to ask him is why doesn't he roll the rv out into the desert and give up and live the good life for the next couple years. Another guy I know is 60 been up here forty years, all he does is sit inside watch tv in his dark house and get shit faced drunk then he'll tell me a few stories about the good ole days and how it used to be, I don't ever want to end up like that, this year has been a wake up call about life and death for me a big one, really puts shit in perspective like I never imagined

I'm not nearly a good enough skier to get paid to do it, so I'm trying to build a career and save money and keep the option open to be able take a risk that will pay off so I can ski a lot and travel more while I'm you instead of getting stuck in suburban hell.
good stuff dude you must be a writer, again I aint bs you, it's good and again your right on even though it's suppose to maybe be funny? I might have it beeter than your imaginary friend: got up yesterday, hung out, did some paper work for a couple hrs, poached some ski in ski out parking, ski'd a bit, it sucked so went home, made lunch, got a mid day booty call, went to work for awhile, came home shoveled chopped fire wood, stretched for a half hr, made myself some gourmet pasta and organic spinach salad (felt like I was from boulder), laid down on the couch and fell asleep by 9, trying to do it all again today, someone has too

So funny how one little comment, a sigh of relief after a long, crowded weekend, can turn a weather thread into a all out civil war. Sounds like some people ain't been getting enough pow even though it's been dumping for two weeks. Go do yourselves a favor and go get deep my friends. It cures what ails ya!

Sunny today, then snow moving in later. Sounds like a rapid warmup coming later in the week. Should make for an interesting avalanche cycle. Stay safe out there friends.

Yeah, on the internet, the grass in your yard is always greener and anyone who says different must be corrected ad-nauseam.

Back to weather: The snow in my yard is deep and white.

Love it but I need to know who I can make fun of here in Crested Butte. I'd hate to overstep my caste

with the way this thread blew up, you would have thought we'd be in the midst of a 3-4 week dry spell in CO. Must be all those "rats in a cage" posting from their cubicles on a Monday

Fingers crossed for an upslope event, we need a big dump to make some local terrain skiable!
All these mountain dwellars will be jealous as shit when we’re dropping 1st FlatIron, Red Rocks, Lookout Mtn and the Manitou Incline.

Shouldn't everyone here just be glad that they don't live in Dallas or Atlanta?

I'm heading to Jackson in a few hours. Hoping the forecast pans out.

Just watched CDOTs heli bomb Mt Trelease north of I70 near Bakersville. Set off an enormous avy in that south facing chute that runs to to hwy. Be careful out there.

That said, I love my "9-5" job and what I actually do, a place in the city, a place in the mountains, never a second thought about money, health or a good future, work when I want, play when I want, but its hard to find a job that can do all that. Just lucky, I guess.
    your thinking of someone else...

    anywho...

Looks like we'll be fairly dry the next week.
