Went on a FLC outdoor pursuits backcountry trip today. We ended up skiing Pumphouse near Silverton. It snowed like all hell before we got on the mountain but stopped for the skin up.
We started skiing right about 2:45ish and the snow started to come down. 3" an hour rate at least. I'd say there was 12-14" at least of absolute blower.
Continued to snow like that over Molas. Complete whiteout with about 4" of snow on the road. As we were headed towards coal bank we hit an avalanche in the road that literally was ending right as we hit it. Luckily we only nearly slid off the road and had to dig ourselves out.
Crazy awesome day. Anyone else headed to wolfie tomorrow? I'll probably be there. Green Trew jacket and Renegades.
A few more hours of snow like we had this afternoon and tomorrow will be a fun day... In Fraser it went from being crystal clear to snowing 2-3 inches/hour in 30 mins snowed for 2-3 hours and went back to being sunny again. If that happens anytime in the next 10 hours tomorrow will be sweet.
So um, I kinda wish it would just rain.
It's been dumping on and off in Vail all night. If it keeps snowing consistently, it'll be nice tomorrow.
Just got home from Vail, light snow but should be fun tomorrow. Nice show tonight btw
ROLL TIDE ROLL
15" at Storm Peak summit. Time to press glass.

Wolf Creek was awesome yesterday. It was a bit disappointing to see the report yesterday morning, so we took our time making it up the hill. Hopped on the first lift about 10, and the day just got better every run. It took us awhile to get out of the parking lot, and even at 5pm it was still full on white out. Heading out now, should be good for first chairs!
Think the 3 overnight at Vail is accurate or has more fallen post the 5am report?
I have a theory they wraparound NW flow /= to a normal NW flow storm. All the moisture in a wraparound storm still gets sucked out by the southern ranges just like a S or SW storm, hence why this storm was a joke.
Local a wind direction doesn't count near as much as where the moisture is coming from on a macro level.
How does it snow 15" at Steamboat and Wolf Creek, but virtually nothing in the middle (Summit, Eagle, Loveland)?
12 inches + in tride. Lowers skied very deep all the way down to the trail.
Well it certainly snowed more than 2" yesterday at Vail....more like 4-6. This morning there was another 4-6 in most spots. It was way warmer than I thought it was going to be. Sunny and 30 this afternoon. Good 3 days skiing for me.
ROLL TIDE ROLL
Looked like the so-called northwest flow split the State, pushing what should have been Scummit county out over the plains, and keeping the rest to the west.
Tride had a pocket that just stayed there for awhile.
I planned on heading up Sat., but pussied out. Stayed home to do taxes, so atleast it'll be done.
Abasin skied well today. Overall pretty soft with some nice deep pockets. Coverage is improving, but still gotta watch where you're going. Pali is super thin.
Best regards, Terry

I have more skis and bikes than Facebook friends.
