dug a pit. I think the warm temps the past few days have helped stabilize our snowpack a bit. Things appear to be bonding somewhat.......... however i was able to get a lower layer to fail in my pit, although it took considerable effort.
Been looking like that for a while now. The scariest part of the snowpack is a suncrust about 1-2' down. Its not slide prone everywhere, but its by far the most reactive of anything out there.

The traverse out of Bench might get scary with the warming trend. A little lube goes a long ways. I'd drop low this upcoming week/weekend.

yea 48 for the high here, crazy

looks like decent moisture on the weather models, but the split isn't going to help, maybe we get lucky?

no dust here today, a bit windy though. Winter weather advisory from NOAA wed/thursday, 5-10 inches...anything will help at this point with all the warm weather the past few days.

It was so hot today in steamboat before the wind hit. The wind was actually nice. My knees are pretty sore from pounding moguls though. The snow was too soft not to. It was my first time in steamboat. The chutes are really fun, and the snow in there didn't get sun, so it was soft all day.

Tomorrow looks like a good day to sleep in.

Crazy warm today. If the clouds would not have rolled in it would have easily been in the mid 60's today. There was just moderate wind although it has been picking up. Dust could be a problem. A friend was in Junction today and said from up on the Monument they could not see the Bookcliffs because of the dust.

I'm started to get the bike itch myself...knowing that, we'll get a huge dump in May and it will set back the melting of the trails

Always double the Monarch forecast and that's what you get in Mirkwood. More beauty of it all is never the need to leave early since the area doesn't open until 10/1030.

There's plenty of other fun stuff at Monarch to keep you busy until 10:30, however.

Not sure about always doubling, but the wind can do some nice things back there, especially in Mirk Bowl and Orcs.

In translating today's report, how much is double a trace?

Woke up and was ready to leave for Monarch, but decided to come to work instead as the snow just wasn't deep enough to piss off my boss.

Next bigger storm, it shall be done.

Despite the warm temps, conditions up high at Breck are still holding up quite well. I was pleasantly surprised today.

PM me if anyone wants to tour tomorrow. Bert or Butler or one of our other local 1.5 star backcountry destinations.

Not too early, since I have to take my wife to a court-mandated fetal alcohol screening at 9am.

Vail got dusted last night. It wasn't apparent everywhere, but it was there. Shit.

On a side note, anyone go to the Less Than Jake show in Vail today? It was rowdy.
