Well, if I did Silverton it would be Thursday...

But at this rate, I may just "settle" for big totals at Flail or the Beav under bluebird skies tomrorow

Aspen/Gunnison is far closer than Telluride. That's where I would be tomorrow. Looks like totals by the end of the weekend could top 30"... nice to say this activity once again.

only 4 inches in CB (at the ski area) so far, this storm seems kind of a bust unless we just get nuked on this afternoon. Irwin didn't do too much better, they were only reporting 6 this morning.

Looks like a change in the forecast with the bulk coming Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Either way, Freeskier pow test at Irwin this week into next should go off.

Irwin should get good totals regardless between this storm and the next on wed/thursday...237 inches for the season there so far, sucky considering they average 600, but its at least a nice base.

Sunlight skied great today. 9" by the time the lifts started turning with on and off dumping all day. Easily another 4-5" fell after opening. It is crazy how fast the snow is settling on the snow stake.

The snow was a mix of light and heavy on the wide open runs. I the trees the snow was much more consistent and skied amazing. Many places in the trees the snow was up to the bottom of my knees. Western facing aspects the snow was heavier then on the more eastern facing aspects.

Wolfie was absolutely insane today. They reported 20" this morning, and they'll probably report another 20" tomorrow. It's still snowing.

Awesome. IMHO, Wolf Creek's management and development philosophy is a breath of fresh air in today's ski resort industry. I dig that place, and so does ULLR, big time dumpage going down @ WC currently!

I love vail's 5am snow reports. best 1" day ever

around 7 or 8 inches fell in breck between 6am and 9am, some epic skiing in contest and horeshoe and the hucks were super soft. 6 and imperial didn't open so tomorrow should be goood.

I agree...all about the skiing, not a resort or real estate development. This is why you have people flocking down there from all over the state, kudos to wolf creek.

It was snowing so hard over vail pass at 4:30ish it had to be coming up from the ground as well as down from the sky. I almost just wanted to park and watch it pile up.

well it looks like we have close to 10" already with Irwin probably 12-20", after the next storm Irwin should easily have over 30" this week. Keep it coming Ullr!

How is the snowpack shaping up in Summit county, specifically Montezuma area? Its a good halfway meeting point for us to meet up with a friend from Rifle. I' thinking of the areas near Equity, Cadillac, etc........ I just don't want to truck up there and wallow around in facets all day or have to back off everything.

From CAIC: "You are most likely to trigger avalanches today on wind-loaded slopes steeper than 30 degrees near treeline.

On Monday, a group of snowboarders triggered a hard slab avalanche in the Beaver Creek backcountry. The slide occurred on a below treeline, northeast facing, 35 degree slope. The third snowboarder in the group triggered the slide. The slab broke to the ground, was 3 to 5 feet thick, 100-150 feet wide, and ran 1000 vertical feet to the valley floor. The slide was large enough to break large branches. The reporting party mentioned that, "...the mid snowpack stiffness gave us a false sense of security."

Seems like people are just rolling the dice without testing the pack before descending.

^^^^^^ Yeah that midpack stuff can really lure you in right now. I think you can ski in most of the areas I mentioned safely with good terrain selection. With the whole state being such a mixed bag right now I just wanted some recent observations on that particular area.
