It took us 2 hours to get to Eldora, starting at 8am. Just after we hit the access road, they started parking people at the school. It took 45 minutes to go from the base of the access road to the lake. We turned around, much like everyone else.

Yesterday it was pretty skied out after I detoured over Sugarloaf with the Canyon closure. Skiing was fun, but I hit a TON of crap that was barely covered. Be careful exploring, try to follow tracks to let them uncover all the junk you're about to run into.

    so eldora basically sucked

I go to school at CU, and dont have a car, so usually take the 810 express bus to eldora from boulder. On the WORST of days, it usually gets to eldora by about 9 oclock. opening. No such luck today.

big mistake on my part taking the bus. Boulder canyon was a shitshow. moving about 5mph the entire way up. the 8:10 bus that I was on didnt make it to eldora until 10:50. Parking lot was full. took 25 minutes just to drive up the shelf road.

frontside lifts had a 20 minute wait once we arrived.

Everything was slayed by the time we hit the slopes. Placer glades looked tasty... turned out the 18 inches of blower was on top of rocks stumps logs and all sorts of bullshit. buddy almost died in a treewell on the first run of the day, in placer. scared the shit outta him.

literally EVERYTHING was tracked after that. everything. in some places, the mountain was actually in worse shape than it was before the storm because the gapers scraped the snow off anything steep. if you looked hard in the trees you could find some deep, which was alot of fun.

went to the lodge at 1:30 for food. turns out the mountain sold out of everything for the day. Bought the last bag of chips and called it lunch.

On a brighter note, I found a bunch of awesome cliffs in the moose glades. Hucked a good 20 footer. And a few 10-12 footers. sure felt nice to huck some things with a soft landing. Today actually felt like winter for the first time. more snow than ive seen in fucking summit county all season

I left Edwards at 6:10 not sure where I was going, found the indian suoer highway and like rally-car' over the top and through that odd little town, Center City. Went down the other side, still not sure sure I was going the right way, getting worried I was off course. Then I saw the cars coming up from Boulder.

The line of punters waiting for tickets in the main building went up the stairs and out the back of the building. I was lucky and ducked into the ski school building. Got 10-12 chair and went out to the far chair, got 2 great deep soft runs in then went to the chair and there were people hiking back up. I saw a patroler hiking up with a woman, walked them and got on the completely empty middle chair. He was mnt. director, super nice. His 2cd in command was on the radio freeking out, parking lot full, high school lot full, he was calling the police to help out.

You can ski right to the car too! Another bonus was a guy selling girl scout cookies out of the back of his car.

The interesting thing was the chairs are so slow, everyone is in the air, not on the runs. I had a great time in the trees on the front, then saw an old GF in boulder for lunch. Talk about a target rich environment... whoa! Place is holding. I may never set an edge there again, but all in all a great day, and that's what matters.

breck opened the actual chutes in lake chutes yesterday. found a lot of creamy old pow and a few good 30 footers to huck off of. I'd take that over eldora's "terrain" any day, even with consolidated pow.

I agree with you that Breck blows and Vail sucks, but I'm so glad you had an awesome bus ride skiing the DeeP with your FR buddies:

i dont get it...usually eldora is the suck and now people are all butthurt that they got 30 inches. Good for Eldora, good for business, good for all the people that had shit eating grins on their face after getting blower face shots...Don't see nothin wrong with that. No need to try and dick wave about how gnar and awesome summit county is over eldora...besides we all know there is nothing gnar in summit county to begin with

I hear ya Bean but it does look like we might go thru another little spurt of good snow. But all the "storms" could split like they've done most of the winter. It at least doesn't look crazy dry.

doesn't sound great but doesn't sound terrible. Sounds/looks like more splitting and maybe more Front Range snow and the 8-14 day looks like that as well. Maybe we'll get something....

FRIDAY-SUNDAY THE RIDGE PROGRESSES INLAND AND IS FLATTENED BY ENERGY
FROM THE NORTHERN PACIFIC. BOTH EC/GFS DIG A SPLITTING WAVE THROUGH
THE ROCKIES ON SUNDAY. THE EC PRODUCES SHOWERS AS IT HAS MORE
ENERGY IN THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE TROUGH. A STRONGER WAVE PASSES
ON MONDAY-MONDAY NIGHT FAVORING THE NORTH WITH SNOWFALL.

THEREAFTER THE WESTERN RIDGE IS PROGGED TO REBUILD...BUT THIS TIME A
BIT FURTHER WEST IN THE EASTERN PACIFIC. THIS MAY ALLOW A TROUGH TO
PERSIST OVER THE NORTHERN-CENTRAL ROCKIES WELL INTO NEXT WEEK FOR
    SOME PROMISE OF NEW SNOWFALL.

Starting on Sat/Sun, there could be storms every 36-48 hours from NW to SE across Colorado. Too early to call big powder days and big totals, but next week looks like a good 7-10 day stretch. Start making plans now to take advantage...this won't last forever.

By the way, Eldora was excellent for the first few hours on Friday. It's the old deal...get there first. Most things were tracked by Friday afternoon, but skiing from 9am to 1pm on Friday morning was perfecto. Get in before the crowds, get out before the crowds.

Skied in Indian Peaks on Sunday and there was too much snow. Measured 36" of settled new snow, which was too much to ride on 28-31 degree slopes. Super fun to be in that much pow, but going down leap frogging a buddy's tracks was almost more work than breaking trail going up.

    I like snow!
