CAIC mentioned 10k snow levels in the morning forecast. Going to Polar Star Wednesday through Friday. This should be interesting....
"interesting" is a good word Rontele....this weekend brings the moisture but crazy warm temps.
ROLL TIDE ROLL
Considering Yeoman Park trailhead is right around 9k, will be curious to see if we are skinning in the rain until the snowline. Higher up, so long as this new snow falls on some skier compaction, the skiing should be pretty good. Heavy wet snow on top of shit facets is going to be the going concern.
A PNW style snowpack correction in the form of rain all the way to the summits would be pretty sweet, but it's definitely snow here at 9400- 4 or 5" so far. It's going to get ugly before it gets better, but at least the forecast now has a shot of getting better. Pow day!
I think we'll definitely get enough snow out of this one to go through a decent avy cycle...keep it coming! the more the better!
Joel- in your Daily Snow forecast, you say there's a "TON" of moisture coming Wed-Sun this week, but then I look at the daily forecasts and there's only 1-2" a day. Where's all the snow? Is it just because you're not sure which day the moisture is going to hit?
I think the amounts are broad-brushed at a couple inches each day for now because the models have not sync'ed as to timing of each wave yet. Also the forecast temps are really warm.
Anyone have any obs on snowpack conditions in the Aspen backcountry, particularly around Ashcroft area (yes I read CAIC)? I have the Goodwin Greene hut booked Fri-Sun and I am getting concerned that access via Express Creek road is going to be suspect/unsmart with slide paths above the valley getting loaded up with snow, especially heavy wet snow later in the week.
@smmokan - to convert the ton of moisture into snow/rain, there needs to be some energy that moves through the flow (a short-wave trough). There will be a few weak ones Thu>Sat, but they're impossible to time. Without a stronger short-wave, I'm not confident at all about converting the moisture into more than a few inches of snow, plus the warmer air is going to mess everything up.. The stronger short-wave moves through late Sunday into MOnday, and that will be the bigger time for snow.

10" of snow at Sunlight so far. Now I am going out to work on the moto track here in El Jebel that has not seen a snow flake.
maybe a couple of inches in town so far. I heard the mtn was just a couple as well so far.

about 3" on VP and I heard about 4 on Vail mtn. Snow in the valley has been off and on all day, just a couple of inches. Still pretty warm so not sure the front has passed yet. CB already with a foot and still snowing.
Snowfall update: as of the 4pm we've gotten 3" of accumulation since 6am. Let's hope this storm keeps the snow coming through tonight.
update from Vail^^^

^^^^ Nice!
Some of you cherries just astonish me. 50 pages of complaining about lack of snow and now come the posts complaining about the TYPE of snow we will be getting.

If anyone cares I monitored the Copper Snow Stake Cam all day. Close to 2" by 11:00AM, 2.25" at 1:00 and 2.50 at 4:00. So if this thing powers up tonight there is a good possibility the morning reports for I70 resorts will be mostly untouched.
Why doesn't Vail have one of these?
I have more skis and bikes than Facebook friends.
^^^ I wish every resort had one...the CB one is sweet, I loved the messages they put up to ULLR while it wasn't snowing.

Even though breck wasn't getting pounded today, it was fun to ski softer snow.
+1 i hope it continues in a big way throughout the week
Have fun/be safe out there.
Front just dropped through Eagle with a big burst of snow and shift to NW winds.. Keep coming!
We had a band of snow that moved through dillon here about an hour ago. I thought it might be the front, but if it is still in eagle county, we could get a few more inches here before it lets up this evening.
EDIT: 5:08 PM
So now I can't seem to see much at all. This could be the front pushing through summit county?
Is there a way to discern between the bands of heavier snow, and a front that is passing through?

I am actually getting a little excited about skiing tomorrow. The snow keeps piling up. Only 2" since 4:00, but almost 14" since 4am today means it should be good regardless, and it is still coming down.
