main Low appears to be losing strength. With the loss of daytime dynamics the snow could taper off tonight and result in a bust of a storm, we'll see. After that hour burst this morning, absolutely not much at all here in zone 10 all day.

Does anyone know why snotel switched Loveland Basin to daily readings as opposed to the hourly that it used to be? Anyone got an idea of the best way to judge Loveland's snow now that snotel is fuxored. I guess the Grizzly Peak snotel is the closest and I'll use that. Thanks.

I've seen this happen with several snotel sites. Seems to be browser independent. Definitely annoying.

Looks like I'll head to A-Basin today. Black Oakley jacket, black pants, and I just waxed my 10 year old Nitro Natural, so I'll be the guy that looks like Clark Griswald in Christmas Vacation. Oh yeah, and POV1 strapped to my head.

Got out into the central Sawatch yesterday to do some tree skiing. N facing trees were the tits, while all other aspects had crusts burried at various depths, from a foot down to 3 inches. But damn, those N faces were soft and deep...

I don't why Monarch all of a sudden became Wolf Creek or Alta while the rest of the state gets these epic 3 and 4" dumps.

^^ A-Basin got 8" overnight.... I guess that's what they predicted- but it sure as hell doesn't look like much today.

You just never noticed in the past. FYI, even at Monarch, this year has been dry. Remember last year, when Monarch got 480"? (oh wait, you probably don't, because no one was here skiing it...) And now, with 234.5" on the year, you're comparing it to Alta?!?

Monarch is finally catching back up to their average numbers! Right now they are at a 71" base. This time last year they had over a 100" base and well over 300". Yeah, its been pretty good recently in the Sawatch, but no need to name drop.

And it's called WSW flow. Its a pretty simple concept, really. WSW flow dumps on Monarch and the central mountains, while NW flow dumps on Vail and skunks Monarch (Such as the New Years cycle we had, which missed Monarch almost entirely. Well, we still had some good days, but nothing like what fell up north).

Holy shit! Lift tickets are cheap. I just mapped it and it's only about 25 miles further from my house than it would be to go to Beaver Creek. I might have to check it out next time it dumps.

How much is a LL pass if you buy it early? I think I'll buy one next year. I love the Epic Pass for Vail and BC, but somedays I just hate making the drive, but A Basin and Keystone never get the snow that LL does.

dry thru the weekend, looks like the flow sets back up next week. Biggest problem I see is that temps should remain above normal for quite awhile. Should be a GREAT weekend to tour.

imho, it's a normal or better season when it doesn't rain in January on Vail Mountain up to PHQ

I do think it's been warmer than last year since the epic (for Vail this decade) snow storms of December and January stopped

Warm temps are a mixed bag sometimes? The "deepest" maybe more than 6" overnight snows occur when it's closer to freezing (28 F?) and very rarely when it's below zero?? (F)

yeah it can't be brutal cold, that is not good for snow crystal growth. However unlike last year, which was beyond stupid ridiculous good....we started warming up with highs in the low to mid 30s in mid Jan. That has continued and has allowed tons of lower S facing stuff to melt out...... Still tons of snow but for me, sitting inside and not skiing, some valley dumps and cold temps would be nice. Just the difference in seasons. Maybe we will have a cold and snowy spring. On a somewhat related note, snow levels look high...9500ft or so when snow returns next week....at least initially.

1 inch of snow today in Denver and the roads were an absolute clusterfuck. Ice everywhere and major highways forced to close. Good job, City of Denver.

Took me over an hour just to get to Morrison (usually 25 minutes), then it was another 1.5 hrs to Loveland. I think I'll go hiking instead.
