There's still a lot of good snow up high, but Walter's in a high traffic area.

Highland Bowl was still skiing sweet Monday.

Yeah, plus I realize it's sled territory... so we're anticipating having to head out a ways to find some better turns.

We will be grilling in C lot after noon o'clock. Stop by for beer and grub. I believe chicken tacos and hamburgers are on the menu. You'll see us in the SE corner. We'll get there around 9 if you want to make some runs with the group.

fuck, I have no costumes. Not sure when I will get out there, work may get in the way, but if you see a guy in a green jacket, black pants, beard with lots of grey, tele gear (NTN), wandering around aimlessly in the SE portion of the lot, looking for a guy named Underoos, it's probably me.

Tele gear is a vintage costume. You'll fit in fine.

Danno rocked up. It was nice to meet him and and his dog. He's not in this photo.

It's been pounding here for hours.

That surface hoar is really sticking around on the north side of the compass near and below treeline. I'm sure it'll be there for a while.

It's looking like the snow that's coming is gonna be more heavy than anything in my opinion. A bit more like if its NorCal snow.

    Warmth didn't lock it up?

It's patchy... at least from what we're seeing.

How would warmth lock up a buried surface hoar layer?

Pretty much the only thing CAIC has to talk about these days:
    http://avalanche.state.co.us/forecas...summit-county/

Great season to get stuff done. Can't believe some of the stuff we can ski this early. Hope it picks back up for spring.

Buried surface hoar persists until it is:
    1. Destroyed in a failure
    2. Rounds (slower with surface hoar)
    3. Undergoes NSF (slower than with other grains)
    4. Melts

Failing those, with enough time and load it may eventually press into the layer above it a bit thereby becoming less reactive.

Agree with TahoeJ its presence is patchy (and it is making me dig more pits than usual).

Also agree with shredgnar its been amazing what we can ski right now. What a winter!!! Skied stuff in Jan I've never skied in Jan.

    I would maybe add
    5. Destroyed by rain (not likely here, but common in coastal snowpacks)
    6. Destroyed by wind (if it isn't buried too deeply)
