I went up with the fambly... Looking at the wind forecast last night, and Joel's timing report, and the predicted opening temp in the negative single digits, I decided we'd skip scrambling up there at the crack of dawn, and just take it easy. Unbelievably, this was day 1 for all of us... I skipped the shitshow when it puked in mid-dec, and then we skipped the holidays... So I woke up at 7 to 8" at my house, and the 16" AB report. Went out and plowed, ate breakfast, got all our shit together, and hit the highway about 45 minutes after the Morrison closure. Drove 60mph all the way to the tunnel, 35 through Silverthorne and Dillon, pulled in to Early Riser at about 11am and parked in the second row. Total travel time was less than 1:30.

We got our passes and locker squared away and went out and skied pow all day south of Radical. Everyone must have been in WZ, which is still a little out there for the wife and kid... But we lapped Powder Keg and the lower trees under griz road for 4 hours and saw two other skiers below Griz. Walked into BML for lunch, got a table, no one in line for food... Weather was perfect winter skiing. Very little wind, cold, snowing. Packed it in at 3:30, in the car by 4, drove home including stopping at stores in Silverthorne and Georgetown in less than 2 hours. Completely insane... Certainly, it would have been fun to ski rowdier stuff... But the fam was a little lukewarm on skiing this season after the slow start, and this was just what we needed... What an awesome goddamned day of skiing!

-We did the same for Christmas Eve at WP, after pulling that trick at AB most of last year. Never parked further than second row. Colorado ain't all that bad...

The day started with big fat fluffy flakes and degraded to graupel and then almost sleet. It still skied soft all day, but it's getting a little upside down.

Berthoud pass was killer today. Laps in Perfect Trees were knee to hip deep. Creamy but not too heavy. And no wind-fuckage yet.

Snowing pretty hard in Avon/ Edwards. Probably going to be more than the 1-2 inches the NWS is predicting.

Had about a half hour of freezing rain in CB today, had to wipe off the goggles repeatedly mid-run. Still, probably close to 10" by the time they cleared the webcam. Snowing hard currently.

Cameron Pass was on point again today. Creamy 10 inches onto of consolidated wind bluff. Really fun to ski. Stayed cold and snowy all day.

They do it in the morning. Loveland pass area is going off. I can't wait to get back up there.

Sick . Pulled the trigger on a room for next weekend . Too much snow down there, and more on tap , to go anywhere else.

Hmmm, the ones I check regularly (WP and LL) and the one I check occasionally (Steamboat) all do it at 4pm.

For some reason I am having deja vu, I think I've had this discussion here before.
