So good today. Still dumping here. Word on the street is that Monarch never opened today at all.
yes, wolfcreek pass never opened either. Probably should of gone up today. Would of had the place to myself. Monarch should be the place tomorrow.
I am new here so have a couple of questions. Doesn't Telluride get snow? What is up with 114 never any chain control or tire restrictions.

off your knees Louie
I just rolled onto Poncha Springs. Still snowing down here.
Tomorrow at Monarch is going to be all time.
You should have been here yesterday!
The stoke was high today! Skinning kinda sucked tho, it was more like trenching rather than skinning

I went up with the fambly... Looking at the wind forecast last night, and Joel's timing report, and the predicted opening temp in the negative single digits, I decided we'd skip scrambling up there at the crack of dawn, and just take it easy. Unbelievably, this was day 1 for all of us... I skipped the shitshow when it puked in mid-dec, and then we skipped the holidays... So I woke up at 7 to 8" at my house, and the 16" AB report. Went out and plowed, ate breakfast, got all our shit together, and hit the highway about 45 minutes after the Morrison closure. Drove 60mph all the way to the tunnel, 35 through Silverthorne and Dillon, pulled in to Early Riser at about 11am and parked in the second row. Total travel time was less than 1:30.
We got our passes and locker squared away and went out and skied pow all day south of Radical. Everyone must have been in WZ, which is still a little out there for the wife and kid... But we lapped Powder Keg and the lower trees under griz road for 4 hours and saw two other skiers below Griz. Walked into BML for lunch, got a table, no one in line for food... Weather was perfect winter skiing. Very little wind, cold, snowing. Packed it in at 3:30, in the car by 4, drove home including stopping at stores in Silverthorne and Georgetown in less than 2 hours. Completely insane... Certainly, it would have been fun to ski rowdier stuff... But the fam was a little lukewarm on skiing this season after the slow start, and this was just what we needed... What an awesome goddamned day of skiing!
bored.
go upside down.
Yeah, definitely lots of motion out there. Heard a couple different groups broke off slabs. Blue Sky opening was sweet. Faceshot every turn, 4 laps in a row before heading out the gates for a couple laps. Not many people left by the time BSB opened. Was surprisingly empty considering how busy the first few runs were. Definitely 18-24", not 3".
Usual instability within the new to old interface was the biggest item of today other than the usual persistent weak layers/slabs. Not a breath of wind all day today. Yesterday afternoon was windy on open slopes/faces so I would expect the snow that fell yesterday to have a bit of wind loading going on. We got this storm in kind of 3-4 different ~4 hour dumps and there was inversion for sure. Barely any new snow on longs peak when it showed this afternoon but ~15"-20" in town and I'd say about the same in the park below/near treeline
Everyone who I talked to said the same. No one skiing at Aspen or Highlands. Snowed from 5:15am till now. 8" at work (8000'); I'm expecting a 12-14" report tomorrow and it will be blower with the cold temps. Hoping to sneak out for a few laps first thing, but I think today's secret is well out!
I dug a pit at berthoud pass and noticed depth hoar at the base, my grandma used to always say never trust a deaf whore.
Anybody ski Monarch today?
I did, started off pretty weird ended up awesome. Was like 10th in line for breezeway lift at 8:45 and randomly met powtron. At 9 they told us the lift wouldn't be opening for a while so I went over to garfield, but the line was super long. Decided to walk back to tumbleina to get to panorama and all of the fresh snow up there. As soon as we showed up at pano, they shut down the lift for mechanical issues. I was having goggle issues and went back to my car to change them out and when I walked back up I caught the opening of breezeway. Snow was great, but the terrain off breezeway wasnt quite steep enough and the line was a bit long, so ended up lapping Garfield until pano opened which was incredibly fun. Patrol opened Mirkwood around 1:00, snow was ridiculous, I made 2 laps up there and called it a day. Snow was incredible everywhere, lines weren't too bad, lots of face shots and all around great day!
There should be plenty of fresh lines in mirkwood tomorrow
^^^ What he said. It was FAST and Deep.
Good to meet you, Alec!
