Headed to Baker next week, I'll see if I can sneak some snow back in my carryon.

every area has their dry years, people just have a short attention span and don't remember more than 3-4 years back. I think we need some positive vibes, especially since Silverton and the San Juans are going to get nuked this weekend and we got more storms lined up behind this one.

Agreed, but long term history just shows that Colorado does not get as much moisture as PNW...it is just a fact. I remember more than 3-4 years back, so speaking from my memories of the last 30 years overall.

I am not being negative, just saying it is what it is. I am stoked for the snow coming in and have the fingers, legs, toes, and my two dogs tails crossed.
You should have been here yesterday!

I dont think anybody is arguing that. People are just remembering a few of the huge years we've had in the last 6 yrs and we've just recently had a bad dry year and comparing the two. It's going to snow here this weekend, noaa calling for 6-12 so it's all good

dude you said so much fucking stupid shit in your posts that I don't even know where to start.

First of all, I have lived in Colorado for 20 years now. It would take a whole lot of hands and feet for me to count the number of days that we have received 20 inches or more in 24 hours. Hell, even last year during the shittiest snowfall year EVER, Eldora got dumped on during an upslope storm and received 32 inches in a little bit over 24 hours. You are correct that Summit County does not see massive 90 inch dumps in 48 hours like Tahoe or Washington. But any Summit or Eagle County local could also tell you about tons of mornings with 15 inches plus. Hell, even last year Vail and Beaver Creek had a few mornings where there was 16-18 inches fresh on the ground, and last year was the worst year ever. I guarantee that 16 inches of blower will ski deeper, and better, than 16 inches of cement will ever ski. If you are really bitching about powder days of 16-18 inches versus 24-32 inch "cement" days, you are really a fucking idiot. They are both balls deep - but one type of snow is alot more fun to ski.

Also, I would way rather receive 10 inches of snow every 3 days for a month than receive 40 inches in 2 days followed by a month of 50 degree temperatures and sun like Tahoe so frequently experiences. You are obviously new to Colorado based on all the bullshit coming out of your mouth, so it is important that you understand that USUALLY in Colorado, we do in fact receive more frequent and consistent snowfall than the west coast. The past year and a half has been unusual in this way.

Now, about the Heavy snow vs Blower discussion.... STFU. I lived in Washington for an entire winter and skied out there for an entire winter. It sucked for a variety of reasons. First, it was cloudy all the fucking time. We would go weeks at a time with nothing but fog and mist. Zero visibility on the mountain, cold, cloudy, and damp. it sucked ass. Second, it RAINED. I know you said that it rarely rains at the Washington ski areas, but this is only partially true. I remember tons of supposedly "epic" days in Washington where it was dumping rain and ice at the base of the mountain, and only actually snowing on the top 700 vertical feet of the mountain or so. Also, it sucked that I had to put RAIN GEAR on in january while I was skiing. literally everything would get soaked, even on days when it wasn't raining/snowing very heavily. Goggles constantly icing over etc, all because it is so damp and fucking shitty in Washington.

Cement is actually "more fun to ski"??? You've said alot of stupid shit but this has to be the stupidest shit you said of all. I won't even begin to explain why you are wrong because anyone with a brain already knows.

You can't "ski any steep lines in colorado until april/may" ?????? I would say this takes runner up as second stupidest shit you ever said. Do you actually ski??!!??? It is obvious that you either don't know how to ski, or are a fucking idiot if you don't ski any steep lines in Colorado in the winter time. I don't know about you, but I ski steep lines all winter long in Colorado. But then again, I actually know how to ski.

now. move back to washington, or STFU. we don't need your shitty washington outlook on life. obviously all the rain, shitty snow, and clouds have impaired your judgement.

    please move back. now.

    please move out of colorado.

    please leave

Thanks for highlighting this part ... missed it the first time through but was likely clouded by all the other bullshit included. The number of times I've safely skied something steep before April/May is probably triple than the times bourdonhurt has had 20" days.

Even in the worst year on record, we nailed both Dragon couloirs on March 10th last season:

Nice lines PappaG. Some high quality stoke right there, would love to get to Dead Elk or Dragontail this season.

Any experience in the Terrain Park? We headed up and measured a 55” base at Dream Lake last April and tried a few lines and it was rocky as shit. You have any conditions/snowpack advice on that area?

Thanks. Haven't been at the Terrain Park yet this season, but below are some reports from 10/11. From the parking lot area, make your way towards the ranger's shed and head left (this is the exit after skiing Dragon's Tail/Tooth). After reaching the 1st lake (Nymph Lake), start making your way south (you should be able to see the goods). Plenty of stuff to ski over Dream Lake as well.

I think he was referring to the dry snowpack and tempature gradient being dangerous until we get into the springtime cycle. Not the lack of snow. So I think he brings up a valid point.

Not to say you can't safely ski shit like that here in the winter you just can do it a lot more often with a maritime snowpack. Nice line btw

We did try the trees and clearings on the slope that faces Dream Lake. Great potential with plenty of short steep sections, but after my experience, you’d likely need a 6’ base to avoid destroying your gear.

never underestimate the sheer amount of snow that gets blown off the divide into the tyndall basin. The snowpack can get pretty deep in those trees where the terrain park is. That whole area is really awesome.

You’re right BD. That morning the Bear Peak station was around 30”, nearly double that up by Dream, so I believe it.
