I had a random day off today, and I was going to make the long haul to Steamboat, but since Vail reported 11" I headed there. I thought the conditions were pretty decent. The snow got better the further east you went. Under Chair 5 there was 4-5 inches, but pretty icy underneath. The trees to the east of Orient were excellent. I was pretty stoked for a random Wednesday that I expected to be working.

What's the haul like to Steamboat? it shows 161 miles from my house. The road out of Silverthorne looks pretty decent all the way to Kremling, can you make decent time on it?
All I want is to be hardcore.

^^ silverthorne to kremling isn't a bad drive but you can get stuck behind slow traffic with little spots to pass all the way around green mtn res.

Silverthorne to Steamboat is ~90 minutes assuming no traffic delays or closures on Rabbit Ears

I know that the days I spend the most time on PornHub seem to correspond to lack of snowfall. But it never occured to me to graph it out!

I need to be back in G-town by 6PM, so leave Steamy by 3PM.
    I has a beer cooler.

super warm today and almost humid. Looking forward to the cold front tonight.....I like it when forecasts say the front will "slam" into the area.

    Map Upgrade

In the midst of all this talk about Steamboat (wish I was there) I upgraded my maps to show names and numbers for each station when you hover your mouse over the point (haven't quite worked out how to make it happen for mobile devices like phones or iPad's)

2" of water at Zirkel in the past 24hrs - wow.

Weekend looks like it could be fun.

I now have that running daily. Check out all the images at:

I'm putting the names/numbers on the west-wide maps right now.
I really do need to tart up my site a bit - it looks pretty low budget at the moment.
At some stage I'll link full time series plots to each dot ....

HOLY FREAKING WINDY BATMAN. Unreal windy, snowing sideways but can't tell if it's snowing hard or just blowing like crazy.

wind still screaming at the house but the snow has stopped. About 2" on the valley floor on this side of Dowd Jnctn. Did I mention it was windy?

be careful today, windslabs will be plenty.

Yesterday was good - 11" was a pretty fair average. Some spots were more like 5 or 6, others were more like 18. Mountain was very empty first half of the day, too. Haven't seen in that dead before on a February powder day. Guessing everyone was caught off guard or had gone to Steamboat.

Today should be even better after yesterdays base builder. Not to mention I-70 is closed west of Denver since 4:45am according to CDOT, so mountain should be really empty. Enjoy it since I'll be stuck in Denver.

Another foot at Vail. Today should be at least as good as yesterday. I'll be out early.

Steamboat has an amazing base all of the sudden...even skiing in the PNW snow and East Coast weather yesterday was tons of fun.

Supportive pillow landings and lines were had. Fun times in mini-Japan.
You should have been here yesterday!

Pretty bummed I am working AFD today. Go get it mags.

Vail should be nothing less than amazing. That crust that could be felt on windward aspects is prob gone, and the wind was howling last night. Leeward chit is gonna be DEEP.

Vail should be crazy empty due to I-70 being closed also. Anyone who's there will be loving today(as long as they don't get caught in a wind slab...)
    I'd rather be wresting pebbles...

PNW/Sierra snow is right. What an odd combo of snow on the mountain yesterday. Mashed potatoes and east coast fog for the most part. Nice and deep in other spots. Great day either way. Legs are fried.
