Ski resorts on USFS land don't LEASE the area, at least none that I have heard of.

They receive a PERMIT to operate on federal land.

as an aside, Summit, you should recreate this confrontation at the airport next time they try to search you.

I volunteer sometimes for gate security at football games as a benefit to an organization I'm part of. Same shit, but we aren't ever allowed to touch anybody. Its a great way to tell who the dicks are because dicks treat people who they perceive as being beneath them like shit.

I do think that searching people to ski Keystone is bullshit and I don't have a problem with you taking up the issue with the person who made the rule. As for the yellow coats, there probably skiers just like you trying make there way through life. Being a dick to them is a dickless move. I can't tell if you were a dick to them or not from your post, but it sounds like you exercised your constitutional rights by walking away from the search and that you were allowed to so = I don't see what the big problem is.

You should have just kept your mouth shut, found another way in, and called the COO in the morning.

I know Pat Campbell and am surprised about your description of her. Nazi? She is a sweetheart.

Perhaps she was at the end of her rope from spending hours spent enforcing an unpopular policy on entitled, belligerent locals who believe that buying a $300 season pass for chairlift rides means that you will be treated like a member of a country club?

Or perhaps Summit was the complete asshole as he described himself to be and she responded accordingly after first trying to appease him. The quoted interaction with Pat he has in the original post indicates she was being polite and trying to calm him down.

Why so many are sucking Summit's dick in this thread is beyond me.

By his own words from the original post: "could the rumors of pat downs be true?"

He knew it was coming and chose to act like a dick.

    In a nutshell. ^^
You can cut me off from the civilized world. You can incarcerate me with two moronic cellmates. You can torture me with your thrice daily swill, but you cannot break the spirit of a Winchester. My voice shall be heard from this wilderness, and I shall be delivered from this fetid and festering sewer.

Sounds like they were patting down for access to the lifts. The USFS doesn't own the lifts. Arguing about the permit/lease is pointless. If they want to pat you down to keep drunks out, more power to them. It doesn't sound like it was effective, and it usually isn't.

Summit, you obviously knew they were going to pat you down. Rumors, guys in yellow patting people down.... Give me break And as soon as you flipped them attitude you were just asking to get your pass pulled. Don't fuck with people who are in the service industry.

Probably the most effective way to get your point across would be to not spend your money at Keystone.

Dont believe this for a minute...they can't "invent" a law to suspend your license for a particular event...that would have to be a state wide law governing SUI (skiing under the influence). they can arrest you for something like public drunkenness or public intoxication, disturbing the peace, etc...but certainly can't do ANYTHING to your driving privileges.

I have an employee that got prosecuted for a DUI here in Summit for skateboarding drunk.

I don't see how that would be different than skiing, other than the skiing obviously wasn't on a public road way.

I still find this hard to believe...you are NOT OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE....DUI is for vehicles...not skateboards...again this would have to be a local or state law...I find it hard to believe that if this employee truly did get a ticket for DUI on a sakteboard that any good lawyer couldve gotten it thrown right out..I tried searching for CO laws related to Skateboarding drunk and came up empty...it was probably an overzealous cop pushing a limit....probably got thrown right out.

People get prosecuted for DUI on all sorts of non-motor vehicles all the time, and yes a high quality lawyer would probably be able to successfully challenge that particularly at trial. Can you imagine being on a jury in that trial?

Motor vehicle codes most emphatically don't have jack shit to do with skiing, thank jeebus.
Arguing about the permit/lease is pointless.
I wasn't arguing the point about the searches, I think it is common sense that the lease/permit thing has nothing to do with that. After looking at it some more, I'm inclined to believe MarkoInTheBoat that most have permits anyways, no lease at all. There are definitely some leases though, but not necessarily with the FS. Silverton and BLM I think is one.

I actually saw the posted letter about the ski areas on USFS land in NM when I was at the ski hill yesterday, and it clearly states that the ski areas only control the land and admission to same from November 11th through the end of their season. After that, you are welcome to hike/walk/etc. on the FS lands in their boundaries.
