I woke up and heard rain and the first thing I thought was "Is Mammoth going to get hit?" But I'm not really clued in on how weather moving through LA translates to eventual weather at Mammoth.

Thanks for the new pics though.

It's an odd ball weather system that is hitting SoCal from the south. Mammoth is too far north to be bothered by the rain hitting SD/OC/LA etc.

MAMMOTH LAKES... 248 PM PST MON DEC 3 2007 ... FIRST WINTER STORM OF THE SEASON MAY AFFECT THE EASTERN SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA LATER THIS WEEK...
AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IN THE GULF OF ALASKA IS EXPECTED TO MOVE SOUTHEAST OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS AND SHOULD REACH THE CALIFORNIA COAST BY LATE THURSDAY. HOWEVER... THE PROJECTED TRACK OF THE SYSTEM IS STILL IN DOUBT AT THIS TIME. IF THIS SYSTEM MOVES INLAND TOWARD THE SIERRA OR TRACKS NEAR THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA COAST... SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL IN THE SIERRA AND SOME MEASURABLE SNOWFALL IN PORTIONS OF WESTERN NEVADA WOULD BE POSSIBLE THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY. IF THIS SYSTEM STAYS FARTHER WEST OFF THE COAST... THEN THE CHANCE OF SNOW OVER THE REGION WILL BE DIMINISHED.

Please God, let it dump on the Sierras.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
    FRIDAY EVENING..

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RENO HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY
    EVENING.

SNOW WILL DEVELOP AND INTENSIFY THURSDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUE
FRIDAY. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS MAY APPROACH OR EVEN EXCEED 2 FEET IN
THE HIGH SIERRA WITH 1 TO 2 FEET POSSIBLE ELSEWHERE. EVEN THE
LOWER VALLEY LOCATIONS COULD RECEIVE SIGNIFICANT SNOW AMOUNTS.

CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS AT WEATHER.GOV/RENO OR
LISTEN TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO. PERSONS PLANNING TRAVEL THURSDAY
AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT SHOULD MAKE PREPARATIONS NOW FOR
HAZARDOUS WINTER WEATHER DRIVING CONDITIONS. THESE PREPARATIONS
SHOULD INCLUDE AN EMERGENCY KIT OF FOOD...WATER AND BLANKETS.

I love making preparations for a shitty drive...
I have mastered all major sporting activities to a high degree of mediocrity.

Wow, I'm going to have to rent a truck or something. I don't think the 'Yota is making it through this mess.

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY EVENING
    THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING.
A WINTER STORM WILL BEGIN MOVING THROUGH THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA
INTERIOR THURSDAY. MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW WILL OCCUR IN THE
SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA THURSDAY EVENING AND WILL CONTINUE INTO
FRIDAY EVENING. SNOW LEVELS COULD FALL AS LOW AS 5000 FEET BY LATE
FRIDAY...AND EVEN LOWER IN HEAVY SNOW SHOWERS. UP TO 18 INCHES OF
SNOWFALL COULD OCCUR BY FRIDAY MORNING...WITH ADDITIONAL
ACCUMULATIONS ON FRIDAY BRINGING SNOW TOTALS FOR THE EVENT NEAR 2
    FEET ABOVE 6500 FEET.

I thought I was just getting new boots and some easy first turns of the season this weekend. So much for that! I'll drive my Jeep if anyone needs a ride/wants to carpool.

    From the horse's (mastodon's) mouth:

Mammoth Mountain is in the middle of a huge storm - just in time for holiday skiing and snowboarding! Local forecasters predict up to four feet by week's end; at which time you can expect all chairlifts, all lodges and all trails to be open. Cloud Nine Express is scheduled to open at 11am on Dec. 21! Call 888.SNOW.RPT for the latest weather and snow conditions.

I'd say 14" on top of the Suby when I got home. The parking lot at main lodge was insane....thank goodness I drove the jeep today. Even the jeep (underpowered gutless beastie) had some troubles getting up and over the condensed berm of snow left behind from the plow. Drift of snow next to the jeep was hip deep. Id say foot and a half, 2 feet of accumulation in the parking lot as I left, but it was still puking at 4:40pm.

The storm appears to have come to a lull now at 9:12 pm. Hopefully we'll get some more tomorrow.
