I like the aggressiveness of this forecasting. Its always nice when they refer to snowfall totals as aggressive. This storm ought to make a lot of people in a lot of regions very happy

Alright. If all goes to plan, I'm packing the car and leaving Boulder at 2:30 AM. This is too good to miss.

Either wolf creek or CB. Forecast looks better for wolf creek, so that's more likely.

    Who's coming with me?

I'm thinking about WC for Sunday. For me, it's a question on whether or not they can get Alberta chair running for Sunday. If not, riding Treasure Chair can get a little old after 3 or 4 laps.

Agreed. I'll monitor the forecast on Saturday and make a decision. I'd like to head down with someone if so. DD - what day are you going?

beats the shit out of riding Paradise lift at CB all day. Bottom line is that WC will be able to get more interesting terrain open faster than the butte.

It's also quite possible that this storm will be way too deep to make WC worth skiing. It's too flat for much more than 18". T-ride is the best bet given the forecast, though CB could be sick if things shift slightly. My bet would be T-ride.

I think people are going to be disappointed if they make runs to these resorts this weekend expecting loads of expert terrain to be open.

Much of SWCo has zero to little base before this storm.

I dig it when the weather charts go thru the roof... to the point that they can't handle it... where the guys making them just get overwhelmed to the point where they just.........throw up their arms, and say "Awww fuck it! you get the idea."

all resort will see snow out of this system..resorts more south will get the most..wolfcreek could see 3-4 feet!

    noaa..
Hold on to your hats! We have a good storm brewing, especially for the Southern and Central Mountains. The upper trough now over the Pacific northwest will continue to drop southward eventually merging with a cutoff low from Baja. These two systems will join forces and pump copious amounts of subtropical moisture into the state with strong southwest flow. Satelite images show clouds moving into the Four Corners region where snow should start by noon today. Moisture continues to spread north and east as the day progresses bringing a chance of showers in the Northern and Central Mountains. The meat of the storm hits the Southern Mountains Friday night into Saturday, with the focus shifting to the Central and Northern Mountains Saturday afternoon and night as the main trough moves east. The San Juans will get whalloped with an impressive amount of precipitation, with 2 to 4 feet of snow by the time the clouds clear Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will be quite warm with this storm resulting in heavy, wet snow. Temperatures cool with trough passage. Strong subsidence moves back in on Sunday with snow potential diminishing and high pressure building.

THat could make my decision a little more difficult. I didn't see it on Vail Daily, but I'm sure the resorts will be opening as much as they can this weekend.

    My opinion, FWIW

    - Wolf Creek is always fun early season, if you have some good sense, wax your skis and then get in someone else's track on the runouts
    - Crested Butte is slow at handling big snowfalls, they could spend the weekend doing avy work and a lot would slide to the ground
    - Telluride will make you want to poach and you'll get busted for it
    - Vail will be peachy if you get northwoods chair early, really the front side of Vail can be a good time and it's so big that you can poach without getting busted. Don't wear bright colors

    YMMV
Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.

    Well, you're all welcome.

I left for Chicago last night, and poof, the storm tracks to CO and gets huge.

    Fucking hell.

Anyway, I'll be back Monday night, and up for skiing Tue, Wed, Thur, Fri, and Sat.

I want to go touring after things settle a little, maybe Monarch, we'll see.

Back in a couple days, enjoy the snow, play safe, go get some!

Alright. I just switched up bindings, and my Lotuses are mounted (anti-jinx).

    It's fuckin' on.

I need to volunteer either tonight or tomorrow night (EMT at a frat party thing), and I absolutely can't get out of whichever one they sign me up to do. I could
    1) work the event tonight, ski at Loveland or in SuCo tomorrow and head to SW CO tomorrow night. They need EMTs badly, so I think they'd prefer I work tonight. The event ends at 2 am.
    2) Try to switch to working tomorrow night's event and head down this afternoon to SW CO to ski Wolf Creek, Telluride, or CB tomorrow (not even sure which at this point), and try to make it back to boulder for the 9 pm event tomorrow night. Missing that event would not be an option.
    3) Drive down after tonight's event, leaving Boulder at 2:15 AM, hoping and praying to arrive before first chair (how likely is this for Wolf Creek, Telluride, or CB?) and stay tomorrow night and ski all day Sunday somewhere.
    4) Beg and plead with other EMTs, and probably pay money, for someone to work my shift this weekend and just head down this afternoon and ski all day tomorrow and all day sunday in SW CO.

#4 is the most desirable but the least likely, I think.

    Any help with options 1-3?
