What camera to get for a beginner thats broke?

As i've said im looking to get a new camcorder that provides HD video quality and doesnt brake after 2 months. currently me and a couple of ski buddies are making ameteur east coast ski movies. we have some good footage but at the moment we only have one camera that works in HD. and with one of us in kicking horse another in Jackson, another in park city, and me, the chump, freezing my ass off at sugarloaf maine we dont have too many cameras to go around. Im looking to buy a camera that has great video quality, and easy controls. Im fairly new to cameras so i dont know the whole drill. Im willing to splurge up to 1300 but no more than that. any suggestions?
