Much like the Yin Yang of the universe, Kirkwood exhibited it's lighter and darker sides today.
After a sumptious breakfast at (top secret diner), I arrived on the hill around noon. I really wasn't expecting much since it was windy in town, but for some reason the Wood was fairly calm. So I jumped on chair 6 and then dropped into Sentinel. Whoa, this is awesome. I was expecting crusty hell and was greeted with sumptious corn. One learns not to question such things and just skis instead. So I took several laps on 6. The whole area around and under Ooops was choice. A perfect edgable surface on top allowed me to charge through there like I haven't done before. Best of all, this warm weather had melted all the bumps on the hill. Who was I to argue. Back into Ooops for more. I should mention that Oooops proper is now back to rock garden status and even the Extreme Traverse is gone. I assume 666 will be happy. I don't think his G4s will like this though.
After several more laps in here it was time to hit up chair 10.
[Arty on the ride up]Hmmmm...the bumps are almost gone. This looks good.[/AOTRU]
[Arty on the Wall]Fuuuuuuck!!!![/AOTW]
The Wall was bulletproof. Still though, things had flattened out a bit so I used this as an excuse to work on skiing in less than ideal conditions. As those of you who've skied with me know, I suck when things get manky, crusty, windcrust, slushy, etc. Today was a perfect day to work on this, since it wasn't horrible but still not ideal (Ullr help!). A couple of laps on the Wall were all I could take. To much chattering. Still though, I got a better feel for skiing on the slightly coral reef like surface.
Back to 6. I ended up skiing this till the bell. I mixed in laps on Zach's, Sentinel, and Lower Cham/Oops. I even showed off my imitation steeze in for a couple of runs in the park. I should've quit around 3:15 but said what the fuck. After that time, things started to really firm up. In fact, imagine you're skiing along the Yin Yang. On turn is ice, the next is slush, ice, slush, etc. Eventually, it all just turned to bulletproof. My last run was in the Oops area. Yow! Firm doesn't begin to describe it.
Still though. I feel much more confident skiing in highly variable conditions. It makes me wonder why I didn't go out more on days like this. Oh yeah, those pesky joints. I feel old.
Tomorrow...Alpine...
