    HBO: The Wire

I hadn't watched a single minute of this show until last week and I've already plowed through 2.5 seasons. God damn.

IMO it is one if not the best cops & robbers show ever to be on TV (it's not TV, it's HBO!!). Just a terrific cast of charachters that is so deep you forget the people are even acting. Some of the younger guys who play the gangsters are just superb. Literally there isn't an actor I don't like in the show and the writing continues to surprise and avoide cliche and the traps of run-of-the-mill cop shows.

Just sorry I started watching so late, and also that the final season is coming up.

    What do you think?

    My favorite show.

HBO has it on demand, season 1 ended Oct 29 so Im assuming season 2 is up now. Season 4 is being released in December on DVD and Im assuming Season 5 is going to get rolling maybe Januaryish.

    Such a sick show.

It's amazing this show keeps getting dissed at the Emmy's. The only show close to the Wire in terms of writing and talent was/is the Sopranos and Deadwood.

The Wire vs. Grey's Anatomy, Boston Legal, Heroes or House? Unreal.
Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well.

it has basically ruined all other shows for me. and the last season comes on in january...but hopefully they'll pull a sopranos for a couple years and keep them coming. McNulty rules!

As a former Baltimoron, I'm consistently amazed that the entire show is actually shot in the exact neighborhoods that they're depicting. I have no idea how they provide safety for cast and crew when filming. No soundstages, that's all authentic Baltimore ghetto.

Amazing show, so long as you can stomach a show devoid of happy endings.

Easily the best show ever on television.

I pimp this show to friends and family constantly.

Season 3 just went up and i'm 6 episodes deep, by far my favorite of the 3 so far.

Totally agree with the point about shooting on location....I've spent some time in Balt'mor and the show actually makes the western part of the city look nicer than it is in some cases which really underscores the tragic nature of the show and the city as a whole.

I agree it is a cut above the rest, just not even on the same level as anything else out there right now by a long shot.

The Wire rules. Season 3 is the only one I haven't seen and I think I have plans now for the next couple of nights....

Boomer - You're late to the party and in the wrong forum, but whatever.

Best show on television last couple of years. So incredibly above and beyond all the other crap on tv these days.
Only bad decisions from here on out.
