Tripping out about it not snowing in November is the sign of a Gaper.

I keep hearing bitching about the poor conditions or people losing hope that it's ever going to snow. It's like last year everyone in Alta bitching about how shitty a year it was. Sure it's statically behind, but does that mean that you are justified in freaking out and being a pissant in front of your friends and family? No.

I have lived in mountains for years and I have yet to live in a place that it any type of freaking out has actually been justified. Take a step back and look at what you have. (And this excludes people on the east coast, because your winters really do suck) The skiing in the West of the US/Canada is some of the most consistant and plentiful snowfall in the world. Get over it. It will snow.

Anyone who actually knows anything about anything knows that they will have a spot that is always good. And no, it doesn't matter where you are. There's pow over there.

Except for last year, when we lost our snow pack in March and got snow in April..... Proved for some crappy LZs.

    edit to add:

But true, all things considered, I don't mind the later snow on snow action

I'd like both, please. Plus all of the months in between, and May.

    That is all.

call me a gaper if you wish, but sunny and 60 here in the mtns on Nov. 13th isn't normal. Two things are wrong so far, moisture has been limited, but mainly it continues to be so freaking warm. I realize that it will snow and yes I would gladly trade for huge dumps in March and April. But with long range forecast calling for continued warm temps thru the end of this month, it is perfectly normal to freak out a bit about the lack of snow. We also have a hut trip planned for the second week of Dec. and we would actually enjoy having to skin instead of hike in to said hut.

i don't think you have to worry until the end of november. if there's no snow by then it is doubtful you'll get near an average season. lately i worry about a season like the PNW had in 04-05. we got dumped on and they got the shaft. resorts were closed longer than they were open that winter.

I remember 91' I was at Copper and there was huge dry patches on the lower runs in January. Not every year is epic for every mountain range. They all get off years even Colorado.

Just yesterday 3 inches of snow at my house followed by rain overnight to melt it away. I dont mind its only November and thats the way it is here.Plus wet snow makes for good base.

in my years i've noticed that the vail valley is generally warmer than most areas throughout colorado. so, hearing that it's 60 in november doesn't shock me too badly. 60 is still a bit warm though. as for the moisture, i have no fuckin clue. some years are better than others.

the good thing, for me, is that if stays like this i have a great excuse for a heli trip up north. there's always powder somewhere.

Cmon now powherb, everyone here is a moron, we are just assimilating you to the ranks.

    Glad to have you onboard.

edit - What the hell is a senseless hypocrite? Can I not smell hypocrisy? Or touch it? OR maybe I can touch it but don't admit that I touch it even though I can smell that I can touch it.
