So what should I slap my new dynafits on??

So I have a choice of:
    183 Gotamas
    184 Mantras
    179 Fatty bros.

They're all sitting out in my garage right now w/o bindings. I've never ever fixed my heel down before, so I don't know what to expect. Probably going to be used when I don't feel like tele-ing for whatever reason.

what are you planning \ wanting to use them for?

    what year gotamas\mantras?
    what stiffness\weight bros?
    what boots?

without knowing any of that, id probably say gotamas or bros.

Probably going to use them when I don't want to tele or want more control for higher consequence lines. Who knows, I might become addicted to the fixed heel and
do it more often then I think I will.

what year gotamas\mantras? last years gots/matras
    what stiffness\weight bros? stiff
what boots? Spirit 3's w/ stiff tongues and booster straps.

The only thing I can really see you needing dynafits for is the Bros. Volkls tend to be heavy, but if you're not into the rando scene then I'd say Bros or Gots. More of a tossup with those skis than anything else.

The got's weight seems similar to the bros (no metal I guess?)

hmm.. maybe the new fat model is just..... bigger? What is it, 114 waist? That would probably explain it. Personally, I would do it just to honour the Bros, but the Gots/Mantras seem like a viable option as well.

Teleing in pow is more furn than those bondage oriented -> teles on pHatty Bros.

So either Goats or Mantras for dynafits. Mantras are slightly lighter, but considerring where ya live the Goat might be more allround ski.

I'd say Dynafits go to Goats.

I had a pair of dynafits on my 190 Gots, loved em for big days, but then again I am guessing you would want to tele on those days. I did love that setup though.

yeah, you got the reveres excersize - I would start from tele, and then decide which is the least tele desireable, and dynafit those.

If you were all alpine, I would say dynafit the Bros.

What other tele is in your quiver?

Gotamas for sure, although some people don't like twin tips for serious touring (they get in the way making steep kick turns or jamming the tails in for an anchor). Also, at 105 in the waist, the Gotamas are right at the limit for Dynafit brakes, and Dynafit brakes are a pain to modify.

^^I've found dynafit brakes very easy to work with. Just remove them and immediately toss them in the trash.

^^^ Is that what everyone does with dynafit brakes? Not use them? What if you release?

    Whaaa?

I bent my dynafits to 115 no problemo. Easy to bend, they are.

My tele quiver is dangerously big (and will be purged this winter) but I have:
    TMEX's for spring/mountaineering stuff
188 bros for early rock season (they're about dead)
    Praxis for pow days
    Armada Ant's
Nordica Blowers (think I might sell these and use the fat bros)

So if I go gots on the dynafits I can replace the blowers with fat bros and the dyiing bro's with mantras.

So I got the gots and mantras off craigslist for $300 for both from a spancered skier. The bases were beat the hell, but the edges are all intact, so I borrowed a friends base welder and they've cleaned up nicely. So that's why I have too many god damn skies. But any of you would have done the same

The newer gots don't have that huge tail on the newer ones. For serious montineering stuff I'd probably go with something like TM:EX/R:EX's - mid 80's underfoot, shorter length, straight tail, and I might go that route in the spring if I'm digging the rando thing.

I tested the dynafit brakes on the gots and they are right at the limit but will work ok.

They are wide enough to get 2 pairs of bindings on side by side.

I'd say mantra for skiing where you need a solid, easy to manage-ski so you wont fall when not appropriate.
And if i haven't misread the implications, you will be using fatter stuff for deep pow anyways. Mantras are incredibly versatile, which is number one priority in my book when touring.
