Help with DV and Final Cut Express

So I have to burn some footage for one of my professors. I usually work with HDV, so this was my first time importing DV to FCE. For some reason the video is in a small square about 1/3 the size of the video window.

When I export a quicktime file its the same way when playing in QT.

I haven't tried burning it yet, but since it is this way in QT I'm assuming it will be the same when burned to DVD.

    wtf?

You need to change your sequence setting to DV before dropping a clip into your timeline. What version of FCP? The new version asks if you want to change your sequence as soon as you drop the first clip into a seq.

You are working in an HDV timeline. Go into quick setup and change the project to a DV NTSC project. Import and all will be fine. Once you do that, delete the current sequence, start a new one (after you chnage the easy setup) and drop your clip. In should be the correct 4:3 size now.
