    TR - Asulkan Drainage 04/11/07

After raining all week here in Golden, things looked promising up high so we decided to go for a walk to check out, and maybe even ski some lines in the Asulkan Drainage of Rogers Pass.

The snow was wet from the road which made the 6.5 km approach a bit of a slog.

The line we wanted was "Forever Young" (the long skinney in the background)

    Close up...

The snow in tree line was unconsolidated, 1.5 meters deep, with a foot pen of about 75cm. Above the tree line the wind had done a job on the alpine with pretty wide spread wind loading on all North facing slopes meaning we didn't even want to try the approach to scout our line. Maybe next weekend...

In the end we had to keep ourselves happy lapping up face shots in the Tree Triangle bellow the Asuklan Cabin.

All in all a pretty nice first day of the season.

yeah I had an interview where they told me that they were going to hire an ACMG guide who already works for parks... I guess $50 grand for a winter of work is pretty attractive.

I'm pretty happy I got an interview though - lots of good feedback on where I need to be heading.

by the way are you still looking for a cook for your trips this winter - I think I know somebody pm if interested.

Almost missed this, thought it was from April.

Good to see the snow is building up in Rogers.

Unfortunately freezing level is going to hover at about the pass for the next day, but could be a good dump up higher.

I have fond memories of storm days at Asulkan Hut spent in the tree triangle. Also have bad flashbacks from having to ski back down with a 40-pound pack in tele skis, at which I remain a hopeless intermediate.

Johnnya, if you go make sure to take skin wax, and report back on the conditions.
