    Cold temps and batt life

I just got back from my first day on the hill and couldnt take a single pic because my battery died just from the cold. I was fully charged when i got to the hill, and 1.5 hrs later it hardly had the energy to open the lense cover. The camera is a konica minolta dimage xg, 4ish years old. Just a small point and shoot camera I like to ski with.

Last season I tried rubber banding a hand warmer to it to keep it warm enough for the battery to be useful, but no dice.

What do you do to keep your batteries functional in cold weather?

ps, i know the batteries are old and are probably shot

Yeah, new batteries handle the cold better.

When I'm shooting in cold weather I keep the batteries in an inside pocket, next to my body so they stay warm, and only put them in the camera right before I shoot. Then put them back in my pocket until I'm ready to shoot again. It's a bit cumbersome but you'll get nearly the full life out of the batteries since they never really get cold.

I have two sets fully charged, keep the extra battery(ies) close to my body & swap as necessary. On a camcorder, I found I needed two of the bigger batteries & swapped those.

sounds like your battery has just ended it's useful life. Time to buy a new one.
