True. And cheating the salary cap had only limited success for the Niners. Led to a long term lack of cap space despite yearly feverish contract renegotiations. I think the penalties involved the way bonuses were distributed over the life of the contracts or something. Like Belicheck, they thought what they were doing was within the rules at the time or so they said.
I suppose the karmic payback is at hand, look at the Niners this coming Monday Night- I dare you.
Belicheck is the best coach, hands down in the NFL. The Halberstam book about him is really interesting. But damn, even if you think the Colts piped in sound, look Dungy in the eye when you shake his hand. Is that what you would teach your sons and daughters to do?

I know, but I bet Favre would give em a good game, besides I fucking hate Dallas/T.O. and shudder at the thought of another Manning going to the Super Bowl. The Vikes could be contenders too, but it would be a nice swan song for Favre to give it one more go in the big show.

I haven't read the rest of this thread but I'm sure if they were cheating Belicheck would have it all on tape.

Agreed totally, but when you look at the NFC, there are VERY slim pickin's for quality teams. 1st place right now has Dallas, Green Bay, Tampa Bay, and Seattle.

Tampa and the rest of the South are all fatally flawed, though it is a crap shoot who will win but you can bet they won't make it far.

Seattle is atop of the West which hosts 3 of the worst teams in the league and Settle is not much better.

The north is far tougher, though I would argue that Green Bay could get a run for their money by Detroit the way things are going.

Dallas will win the east for sure and the G'ints will have a WC spot.

So that Leaves the other WC coming from the North most likely with the 6 playoff teams being: 1)Dallas 2)Greenbay 3)NFC South winner 4)Seattle 5)Giants 6)Detroit Though Detroit and the Giants could trade places.

So Round 1 has the South vs. Detroit/Giants who will win and Seattle vs Giants Detroit who will win also.

Round 2 has Dallas vs. Giants/Detroit, Dallas wins and Greenbay vs. Giants/Detroit which is another crapshoot.

The NFC championship has Dalls vs. Greenbay/Detroit/Giants who, though it pains me to say so are inferior temas to Dallas by leaps and bounds.

Short of a serious injury to Romo or a complete fluke win, it's hard to not see Dallas playing Indy/Pats for the superbow.

the only thing I'd add to that is the Vikings as the sleeper in the NFC, but probably not beating Dallas. A dood like Adrian Peterson can take a team a long way. I really cant stand Terrel Owens and Dallas, but that looks like the way its going right now. the NFC certainly isnt a lock though.

Peterson scars the shit out of me, however when you have Jackson getting knocked out and Brooks Bollinger as your backup you are pretty much rightly fucked.

"Colts deny allegations artificial noise was piped into RCA Dome
By MICHAEL MAROT, AP Sports Writer
    November 5, 2007

    INDIANAPOLIS (AP) --

It's not the first time Indianapolis has been accused of such tactics. The Pittsburgh Steelers complained about the same thing after a 26-7 loss at the dome in November 2005. Since then, other teams have informally contended there is artificial noise pumped into the dome.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick, no stranger to controversy, did not discuss those allegations during his regularly scheduled news conference Monday. Instead, Belichick said he was more concerned with communication problems he said existed between Patriots coaches and Brady.

"Basically, we didn't have a coach-to-quarterback operation, so we had to signal in all of the plays, which is unusual, but that's the way it was," he said. "What all was going on, I can't tell you, but I can tell you that, from a functional standpoint, the coach-to-quarterback was basically useless."

Now there's crowd noise, communication issues and even something as simple as a postgame handshake between Colts coach Tony Dungy and Belichick, who quickly walked past Dungy as Dungy attempted to speak with him Sunday.

    Dungy downplayed the incident.

"Bill is fine, he's a good guy, that's the way he is win or lose," Dungy said. "He's just an intense guy out there. I wouldn't describe it any way other than what it is.""

    Heh heh.

What's that incessantly loud incredibly obnoxious squealing noise coming from the Pats/Sox bandwagon? Is it the axles? Poor things must be overloaded.

I know, the horrible noise is from the RCA Dome amplifiers!!!

I hope to Ghod the Celts suck this year - if they do well, NE sportsfandom will go from insufferable to whatever it is that's worse than insufferable.

And no, I don't hate the Pats or Sox - I like 'em both even though I don't consider 'em "my" teams.

Anybody watch the discussion about Shula's coments on the Pats going undefeated http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3097057 with Skip Bayless today on the 1st and 10 show? I went home for lunch and almost spit up my food watching Bayless try to argue that the Pat's stealing signs is just like Barry Bonds using steroids and therefore should they go undefeated they should have an asterix. His arguement was basically that it's worse what the Pats did because they used spy technology to steal the signs and Barroids just used drugs.

As if there is no technology involved at Balco.

Is Bayless an idiot...yes. I'm not a Pats fan but if they go undefeated they should not have an asterix because of cheating in the first half their first game. I still think all the teams do some sort of signal stealing. They'd be dumb not to.

Shula is an old douche who will be forgotten as soon as the '72 Dolphins' record is broken.

Bayless is just an idiot, plain and simple.

Nah. Just went to skool there, but that was the better part of a decade, all told. Part of the reason I liked the Sox and Pats was 'cause they got no respect, at least when I lived out theah. For the opposite (or is it the same?) reason, I hated the Celts.
