I have stated numerous times that I did not agree with "containment". That is why I believe in what we're doing in Afghanistan and Iraq. The status quo was obviously not working in the Middle East. We are working to make a democracy, it takes getting your hands dirty. Do you think places like Iran and Libya letting in inspectors and giving up WMD capability are flukes?

It's not clear that our actions have made the world a safer place, as the right insists. There is a teensy chance that we've created more bin Ladens with the attacks, but who knows. It's not clear that either Afghanistan or Iraq are better off now and it's not clear what the motivators are for Qadafys current romancing.

It's a typical hard assed approach. It has failed miserably in the past yielding Chile, Saudi Arabia, Saddam and the Taliban, all once allies of previous attempts. Maybe this one will work, but please allow me to ask the question without being accused of being a communist. That ploy is really so 50s.

Oh if you don't think the lives of people are measurably better in Iraq and Afghanistan. Take this one tidbit. 260,000 people in Iraq were dying of starvation previous to our invasion. That's 71 innocent people mostly children per day. There is no longer a food shortage. innocent people aren't dying of starvation. This my friend is a measurable fact.

It seems like everyone pines for the good ol' days but seriously, were they really all that better than what we have now? I dont think so. There is always going to be someone shitting all over the board, you just need to look past that. Since I live in a pretty isolated part of the country I haven't been able to meet many of you in person but what I have been able to do for the last few years is read everyones TRs and look at all the sweet pics and that keeps me looking forward to when I can finally move out west. Many times this year when I would be uncertain of a little cliff or line I would think well dantheman fucking hucked ALL of bad news and I can't even do this little drop? And that would give me the motivation to do it. Then I think about it a little more and I dont even know dantheman, and I have no idea where bad news is. That is what is great about this place, it pushes people to ski harder, faster, and take risks to persue their love of skiing. Why would you want to chase someone away from that? Or even leave yourself?

Ok, I kinda got off track but there is a point in there somewhere. Yeah there has been alot of shit posted lately but there is also more stoke being posted than ever. For me that is an equal tradeoff. If you dont like something dont read it, think about maybe it isnt the best idea to get into a gigantic flamewar if someone pisses you off, ok so they have a different opinion than you, let it go.

As much as I hate saying the word, remember it really is all about the stoke.

The fact is that the embargos, independent of corruption, increased starvation. Hence I believe that the numbers are skewed and produced only to support an agenda.

If this was the reason given for going to war and the american people and congress were given the chance make their decision to go to war based on this reason, then this might be relevant. Instead, Bush lied, warning us of bogus immenent threats., so he could carry out his mission, guided by his "Higher Power."

On the 9/11 commission you say Bush cooperated? Unbelieveable. He opposed the commission from the beginning and has been accused of stonewalling by Keane and others all along. And he was asked at least 3 times in press conferences why he didn't testify without uncle Dick holding his hand as the commission requested--he never once answered that question.

Containment was working--there were no WMDs found. I'd rather contain Iraq for another 50 years, probably at less expense than this war, than lose 700 americans (whose funerals he doesn't feel the need to attend) to a cause that has not made us safer. Iraq is becoming more of a haven for terrorists every day (the real ones, not the guerillas and insurgents that are picking our people off now). Mission accomplished my ass. Wanna make us safer? Take those billions and spend it on securing our completely vulnerable rail lines, ports, public buildings, and adequately funding fire and police first responders. That would do a lot more good for us than this war in Iraq.
