    Baby's on fire
Better throw her in the water
    Look at her laughing
Like a heifer to the slaughter

    Baby's on fire
And all the laughing boys are bitching
    Waiting for photos
Oh the plot is so bewitching

    Rescuers row row
Do your best to change the subject
    Blow the wind blow blow
Lend some assistance to the object

    Photographers snip snap
Take your time she's only burning
    This kind of experience
    Is necessary for her learning

    If you'll be my flotsam
I could be half the man I used to
They said you were hot stuff
And that's what baby's been reduced to

    Juanita and Juan
    Very clever with maracas
    Making their fortunes
    Selling secondhand tobaccoes

    Juan dances at Chico's
And when the clients are evicted
    He empties the ashtrays
And pockets all that he's collected

    But baby's on fire
And all the instruments agree that
    Her temperature's rising
But any idiot would know that
Your dog just ate an avocado!

I'm rather fond of the political threads on this board, even if they do devolve into beatings. I think as long as the thread author labels his or her posts nsr, or gives them obvious political titles, then they're fair game here or the padded room or anywhere else.

    Edit:

    I rate this thread a 2

edit: anyone know how many votes it takes for the little rating thing to show up?

I posted this elsewhere, but it's worthy of being seen by all, and this is a much more popular topic than the other:

click here, and $1 will be contributed to MoveOn.org

It's most important to mobilize the campaigns of organizations like Rock the Vote or MoveOn, not just ignore what is currently occuring and casting your vote in November. Help get out the vote, help these organizations raise funds. Bush and co. are well-funded, don't forget.

I second the idea to create a board just for politics (just like there's one just for movies and TV).

Come on phUnk, it's not like your track record is exactly sparkling. From what I see here are the last five threads you started in the ski/snowboard forum:

    1) phUnk files 4/13. Verdict: NSFW, NSR video clips
    2) Hottest woman... Verdict: NSFW, NSR
    3) Stephanie Seymour doesn't ski. Verdict: ok, you used the word "ski" in the title, otherwise NSR.
    4) ......*CLICK*....... Verdict: OK, this one's skiing related.
    5) license plate lookup. Verdict: not skiing related.

So one of the last five threads you started is skiing related. I don't have a problem with this, but you you're hardly without sin here.

EDIT: I didn't include the threads you started AFTER this post where you're obviously trying to make your point that NSR posts are annoying.

I, for one, think it's bullshit to try to tell people what they can (or should) be posting. And parts of this thread make it seem like people are piling on to the originator of this particular thread, when there are dozens of other examples (some by the very people claiming to be against such off-topic threads). This isn't Epicski where someone needs to tell us what to do.
You want a skiing thread? Start it. If it's what people want to talk about, guess what page it will stay on? Or bump it yourself. I'm not gonna tell you not to.
I had no idea this was the thread that gave rise to all the other 'example' threads, showing how stupid non-skiing threads are--I just had decided not to read this thread after reading it early on and deciding I knew enough about W.'s 'intelligence' already. Then I didn't check it again until now. Guess what? Anyone not into these threads can do the same.
This board is community property, thanks to Owens and TGR, and IMO as long as people are being sincere in what they post we shouldn't tell them not to. That goes for the teenagers who sometimes post topics older guys aren't into, and us octogenarians who still sometimes bust out the straight skis and throw daffys (I'm sort of being figurative, but obviously my metaphor is mixed the fuck up).
I understand the sentiment behind wanting to see ski threads, and even not wanting to see some other topics, but as many have already said, if you don't like it don't read it. That simple. If the board is lacking then we're all to blame, and we can all help fix it, but let's not play posting-police, mmmkay?

Forget to mention in the first post that I love you guys, and, well, I won't go into disturbing detail about the extent or form this love takes, but let's just say it scares the hell out of the drugged monkey.

That's the real shame here because I think KQ's post are usually positive. She's obviously intelligent and has a sense of humor. OK, she busts on Bush, but who doesn't? So she may not have the highest percentage of skiing related posts, but who cares? The majority of her posts are positive. Hopefully this thread doesn't drive her away entirely.

exactly. so you say we can't express annoyance to something going on, when you're cherishing the idea of being able to post whichever you want?

a healthy dialogue, good thing. Opinions, great. An axe to grind - I don't see as beneficial.

maybe it's just another opinion being stated from somebody else's oft-stated opinion. So wanh.

    Dex,

I'm not so sure the participants were intending on being posting-police.

I'm thinking this was merely an attempt at a correction. Sometimes the board needs a small nudge. All of us are guilty of posting non-skiing content, sometimes we can get carried away with this. This board is self-regulating, corrections are a necessary occurence.

I like reading the political threads, if only to get a feel where everyone is coming from. But then again, expecting us all to get along would be quite a stretch.

I'd like to think we're all here for our love of the snow. That is what brings us together. It takes an addicted person to find their way here, I welcome all of them. Most folks eventually figure out the way of the board.

Hell no. Go ahead, voice your displeasure. But this seemed to turn into something different--an effort to shut someone up, or redirect them in a way deemed 'better' or more appropriate, or some other formulation that would've had the same effect.
I used to wish Brett would STFU, but I never suggested he 'shouldn't' be posting what he does, or that it's somehow wrong to do so here. He should be free to post the stupidest threads he wants to, no problem. That's all I was getting at.
As I said, I understand the motivation, but to me the spirit of this place (and our old home) was always partly about everything being fair game, in addition to all the stoke-worthy ski threads.

I may have misinterpreted this thread and overreacted, but that was how it initially struck me.
Whatever--report my post to the moderator.

I know, I was definitely exaggerating it, but telling others not to post (except in proscribed ways) sounds a little too DChan for my liking.

I agree with Dex. I'm kind of disgusted by the juvenile shit that went down today on this board. phUnk, MD and others posting bullshit threads to supposedly 'prove their point.' Both of these guys post overwhelming positive, usually funny stuff, but I think today wasn't the highlight of their posting careers.

And now I'll STFU because I do agree with MD's post that it's better to emphasize the positive here.

The AD: My point was more about completely negative posts (generally news pukes) and I didn't make that clear. I did mention in one of truth's threads that threads like tonghands co-worker thread are off-topic yet funny & entertaining, but I didn't stress that in other posts.

Agreed. I sent her a PM disavowing (heh, a political term) all knowledge of that lame alias "KayQ" and reaffirming my admiration of KQ's saucy ways. The constant political droning could be a bit painful, but I'll always heart KQ.
