    braking 916

i have a pair of 916's (finally) cept' they came with small wiener brakes and they wont fit on the seths,

ive heard that salomon brakes will break if bent, is that true?
does anyone have any experience with bending 916 breaks???
is so, does anyone have a need for smaller brakes and would like to trade for wide brakes?

to qualify for this post in the ski/snowboard forum id like to share a little stoke from the 23rd up at cp.
    enjoy0!

There are a bazillion threads on this topic, one being here:

It even has an instructional video - use the SEARCH FUNCTION as it took me about 2 seconds to find this

Salomon brakes can be bent, best to heat the arms (carefully so you don't melt the plastic parts) and then bend them out. Better to just pony up and buy the correct brake width. The B-100 should work fine on your Seths, or go up on more widt ... and ... yes, this does belong in TECH TALK, JONG!

MODS PLEASE MOVE THIS TO TECH TALK.

Bumping this thread to find the link/video that had the shop demo of bending the Sally brakes with a cut off ski pole.

Looking to confirm that you can bend 916 brakes without heating? Or is heat absolutely necessary? I think the link/video that I'm referring to shows a good example.

maybe go back to where you bought the brakes and ask for the wide brake option and trade your skinny brakes in, thats what I did for mine, did it as soon as I bought them, cause I had to get them mounted to Bacons needed the 130mm brake to fit....you should have told the shop which ski they were going on so they could have helped you out....

The man does it in about 30 seconds, no heat needed.

I'd recommend against using heat While it does make for easier bending of brakes, I've found that it makes the brakes weaker overall than if you were to just have bent them sans heat.

heating the brake arm means you are a total pussy. it also means you are basically guaranteed to brake the brake arm.

i have bent 100's arms from every brand of binding on the planet (except for the old atomic/ess-vars - those are basically impossible).

and every time - with minor tweeking - they turn out awesome and it takes a couple minutes.

if you disassemble the brake you did it wrong. if you add heat, you did it wrong. just man up and bend them. its not rocket science.

I just bent some 900's to fit Spats using Marshal's method...took me about 5 mins and it's definitely a bit sloppy but they work totally fine. I still don't totally trust it for FKS or Pivot brakes, and it's about 10 mins start to finish for me to take apart and bend both sets so I still take em apart and use a vise

For all Salomon brakes from my experience, marshal's method is flawless

all you need to do on p18/fks bindings is put the heelpiece in a vice to hold everything together, then bend the arms almost staight out, mount to the ski, then bend them down to the desired width. never had a problem.
